hobbyfella Posted May 1, 2022 Posted May 1, 2022 Just getting back into the hobby after a bit of a break. Fujimi 1/24 GT40 I’m going to add a few things and try a bit of scratch building. I just started soldering and scratch building, so this is a learning experience for me. 1
beeRS Posted May 1, 2022 Posted May 1, 2022 Nice work so far. I always thought the GT40 would make a great looking street car.
cobraman Posted May 1, 2022 Posted May 1, 2022 Love those cars. Good luck with your project. You have my attention.
hobbyfella Posted May 1, 2022 Author Posted May 1, 2022 (edited) Added a spray booth to the shop, it’s taken weeks to prepare and install. I also added all new air systems. I’m aware it’s overkill, it’s intended that way and it’s also a multi use system. Edited May 3, 2022 by hobbyfella 2
tmathew1us Posted May 1, 2022 Posted May 1, 2022 Nice work. Great work bench area. Would love to see your display case if you have one.
hobbyfella Posted May 2, 2022 Author Posted May 2, 2022 Test fit and test fit, over and over. the KA kit is horrible by the way, none of the resin parts come close to fitting, every single parts needs to be reworked or thrown in the trash. I’m basically using the kit for the PE parts and transmission.

Your build is looking like it’s off to a great start. I’ve build a CMA one with the Fujumi chassis and HRM engine kit.
hobbyfella Posted May 21, 2022 Author Posted May 21, 2022 Work has continued on the GT40 Street version. Lots of planning, test fitting and cutting. I cut off the A Arms and scratch built new ones from Nickel Silver Rod and added a few details in styrene. I have to say those were a nightmare to make!
hobbyfella Posted May 21, 2022 Author Posted May 21, 2022 Lots of work continued planning out the interior. In order for everything to fit from the front to rear with minimal gaps, a ton of test fitting, sanding, adding little bits of styrene here and there. Front clip has been cut and hinged.
hobbyfella Posted May 21, 2022 Author Posted May 21, 2022 Reworking the interior is a large part of the build as well. The street version has different seats, carpet, leather, etc. major surgery was done on the interior in order to make everything open. Also taking into account how to paint and final assemble this has been the most difficult part. All the ribs were sanded down, I added window trim that will accent the leather wrapped firewall. the street version seat is much different then the race version. Side by side with the original kit part. Still needs some detailing, I’ll see how it looks after the first coat of primer. that’s all for now. More to follow in the coming weeks. Next will be opening up the doors and hinging the engine cover, just need to get the center body part in its final place and final glued down. 2
dino246gt Posted May 21, 2022 Posted May 21, 2022 I can already tell that it's going to be a sensation on the streets, nice start!!!
Mattilacken Posted May 22, 2022 Posted May 22, 2022 Wow what a build you are making here! Such nice parts can’t believe that this is 1/24 scale!
hobbyfella Posted May 23, 2022 Author Posted May 23, 2022 A few hours of very careful scribing, sawing and resting my fingers, we are fully open. A pillar is so fragile, it’s already snapped twice. I’ve used black ca glue to fix it. Hoping the rubber in the black ca will hold it together.
absmiami Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Nice brass work what scriber did you use? ive been using the Tamiya scribers lately …

I’ve used the Tamiya ones and in my opinion the trumpeter is far better. Much more forgiving, you can resharpen it over and over. Maybe I’m doing it wrong but the Tamiya ones break too easily.
