I pulled this kit out of the stash and thought I would give it a go.  I have all the parts cleaned up and all flash removed (which wasn't much) and ready for paint.  I have a couple choices I can go with in the Tamiya line of paint.  I have the LP-6 Laquer Pure blue, X-14 Acrylic Sky Blue, and the X-22 Clear.  I like the color of the Sky Blue and have yet to try Tamiya's Acrylic paint threw my air brush.  For you guys that have already built this kit, can I glued the top on and paint as one unit or does the top need to stay off until further in the build?

The steering column actually runs up through the firewall into the interior and then the steering wheel mounts at the end (like a real car) So as long as you're comfortable attaching the steering wheel through the opening in the roof you'll be fine.

I believe the roof is separate to allow you to put the interior together after the body is on and then attaching the roof. It was done this way as opposed to their 32 ford line which all have a fixed rear bulkhead for the interior (with the exception of the Rat Roaster) that you attach the side panels to. The 30 A doesn't have the rear bulkhead molded together with the floor to anchor the interior together because they have two different interior heights, stock and channeled. All three I have built I've attached the roof to the body first.

Thanks for the info Craig.

I'll be watching. Don't have this kit yet, but plan on getting it. Also interesting in the Tamiya acrylic paint. Been thinking of trying it. That sky blue looks nice.

I prefer the full fender version but these are kewl too.  Never tried the Tamiya acrylic paint.  I'll be thinning it with the unicorn tears.

Well, with the 40 Willy's finished I can now focus a little more on the 30 Coupe.  I think I'm going with the Tamiya Acrylic X-14 Sky Blue and the X-22 Clear and I'll thin it with the Unicorn tears.  I did get the panel lines scribed and a little black wash applied.  I need to strip the chrome off the grille shell yet and like always, I'm moving slow.

Thanks Andrew.  It's really hard for me to stay at the bench this time of the year.

Good luck with your build, Bob!  I haven't used a black wash in door lines like that but I guess a lot of modelers do it. Have you ever had problems, like black bleeding into the paint or paint not adhering around the edge? I may want to try it myself. Any particular black wash that you use?

Well John, its been kind d of the opposite for me.  I've only tried this a couple times and both time the black didn't show in the panel lines.  I tried to scribe a little deeper this time.  We'll see how it goes.

I finally got something done on the 30 Coupe.  All parts that are going to be body color are now in Primer.  I like using the Tamiya Fine Surface Primer as it lays down really nice.  The scribe lines with Tamiya black wash are still in tacked.  Maybe it'll work this time.  Only time will tell.  I'm going to try and get the Tamiya X-14 Sky Blue Acrylic paint airbrushed on tomorrow.
