I like the color range you're looking at. Since you are testing some spoons consider TS-21 Gold as a possible base coat or even TS-92 Metallic Orange as a single color only.

I do like that color Buddy!!

Thanks Fellows.  The humidity went down to 68% so I shot some paint on a few spoons so I can do my test later on with the Tamiya X-26 Clear Orange.  I'll also be doing the test on the Tamiya X-33 Bronze that I have not painted yet.  Here is what I'll be doing the test on.

While try to get the body prepared for paint I noticed the hood is not fitting as good as I would like.  The hood is a little wide and I'm not sure how to pull it back into place.  For you fellows that have built this kit, what did you do with this issue?

Bob, do you have an extra hood you can try?

That's the only hood I have Carl.  I'm not sure if it's just my hood or if it's a characteristic of this kit with the hood being to wide.

I don't recall this problem from past builds of this kit, some time has passed since then. My thought would be to put the hood in heated water and gently try and bend it into the shape it should be. Should that not work I may have an old AMT '40 hood. The paint would have to be striped, but if you need it PM me your mailing address.

I appreciate the offer.  Let me see what I can do with mine.

Good luck with that hood issue Bob.

I hate when a model kit does one of those sneak attacks.

David G.

I know what you mean Dave.  I think it sucker punched me☺

Good way to look at it Bob, I wish I had  an extra one for you..

I appreciate it Carl.  I'm thinking maybe a !little heat and sand paper should fix it.

Hi Bob,

I would be inclined, if the plastic on the hood is thick enough, to cut a very small wedge (width wise) out of the back of the hood and pull the sides in. Use extra thin fast drying Tamiya cement and clamp it 'till the glue sets. Then sand the the sides of the hood to straighten out the profile. Just heat and sanding could leave you with a hood that's badly distorted. Without seeing exactly what you have to work with that's what I would try. You might be able to get away with just a couple of straight cuts either side of the hood center line instead of a wedge. That should give you enough to move the sides of the hood in.

Cheers,

Wolf

I think this may be the best course of action. The right side looks ok. The left side seems almost a little wider than the cowl.

Thanks for the info fellows.

You could cut out a Vee in the center of the hood but not all the way to the front and clamp it back together. Then add some half round for the ridge.

I know you will get that hood issue figured out Bob, and that will be a sweet looking coupe.

Thanks fellows.  I think I have the hood issue solved.  Got the body in primer earlier.

Didn't notice before, but shouldn't there be wing windows or do you remove them?

They are glass that fit on those little pegs.  I think I'll have to paint the frame on the glass.

My hood had a slight overbite. I didn't start with a mint first issue kit but rather an '80s issue. Maybe the mold is not as good as before. Being plastic, it can be fixed

Yeah, these older kits take a little tweaking here and there.
