I've had Dodge vans on the brain lately and it reminded me of something I think I heard a couple years ago. I can't find anything about it so maybe it was imagination. I think I remember a rumor about an early 70s Ford Econoline being a possible new kit, but haven't heard anything else.

Could it have been Moebius? They've got a lot of the same parts already tooled up in their Ford truck kits. I'd sure like to see one.

Similarly is there a Ford Transit available in 1/24th, maybe diecast? I'd like to do one in a Japanese tuner style thing.

AMT have done a couple of 70s Ford vans recently. It's basically the same kit with different decals.

The only Ford Transit I know of is the old ESCI kit, recently re-issued as an Italeri kit. Represents an 84-85 cargo van. Esci did three versions. Same kit, different colours. Italeri currently have two versions.

It's simple, but I really like this kit.

Greenlight makes the modern US-market full size Transit in 1/64th and 1/43rd in a variety of liveries, haven't seen a 1/24th one.  Haven't seen a Transit Connect in any scale.

We all know the 1970ish Econoline was done in 1/20 scale.  I do have a diecast of one in 1/24 that was very nicely done.

I'd buy a Transit Connect in diecast or kit!

Motor City Resins made a nice 1/25 one but I don't know if they're still in business.

Some More I'd like to see off the Current Van tooling.

First Up:

image.jpeg.e810ee9a43f6528b05255483b151428d.jpeg

This hits all the right cues. And the little Honda has was in the Dodge Pickup kit, IIRC.

Or This one:

AMT 1/25 Cuckoo Nest Custom Ford Van Model Car Kit T420 – Thingery Previews Postviews & Music

Again, the tires were just seen in the most recent Chevy Van kit, and would be great here.

And lastly one that has unique parts seen in no other version of the kit (especially that Round Domed Sunroof)

Matilda, AMT 2504 (1978)

Mix or match all the parts in these kits. Since AMT Back in the day had parts trees labeled A,B, or C that changed the base kit, go back to what works. Throw a couple of thos trees in a new  Ford Van kit, add funky decals, Instant New Kit!

Of course, the Six Wheeler is my grail for these kits. I'd like to see it most of all.

One company 15 years ago did the stub-nosed Econoline in 1/24 diecast metal. Had opening doors and good details. Can't remember the name, but WalMart was selling them, so they weren't high end collectibles.

As far as the "DustBuster snoot" late model Transit, haven't heard. I wouldn't be interested in one even if they did it. ?

What I would like to know is, if it is possible to scale down the 1/20th scale Econoline (and other worthwhile kits, like the AMX) into the common 1/25th scale, meaning scanning an vintage kit and doing some math in the scanning problem, or am I seeing this too simplistic?

Anyone here with some knowledge on the issue?

Thanks in advance!

The AMT Ford '77 Van is another one that could be forward dated some , I think only change needed for the later years is to fill turn signals are in the body, with the later years being apart of the headlight/grill piece.

Hold up, The 124inch WB length was ran till 1984, so they could update it to cover the 79-83 MY without lengthening the WB

I agree. I suggested the 1983-1991 grill on the 3D Request thread, but no response yet.

I saw someone build an 83-84 van by using the grille from a similar year Bronco. Looked pretty good!

Would probably have to flatten the ends where the headlights are, as the Bronco grille juts out from the headlights, whereas the grille on the van is even with the headlights.

The MPC "Stunt Van" has the later model grille with the square headlights.

So does the "Sunrunner" and "Sorcerer". Same kit, all the same parts, different decals.

Funny, I like the Matilda Kit. Could you post pics of the Contents?

It is a neat variant on the Tool, and has unique parts that have never been seen again.

I bought the "Stunt Van" thinking it was the same kit as the "Off Road" van. But, it has the newer grille and it's molded in red. I was going to attempt to paint the graphics of the "Off Road" version. But, never have got around to it.

I have an unbuilt copy of the Sunrunner [1979 annual, for those whom aren't familiar with MPC's Econoline Vans], and it has round headlamps. IIRC, the Sorcerer was the 1980 annual, and it has the square headlamps which are shared with the Stunt Van

MPC took some "liberties" with their built-up prototypes: the c.1982 catalogue exhibits the Fall Guy pickup with the 1978 cab!

'79 Ford vans had square headlights. '78 had round headlights.
