While we are talking Daytona Coupes here are a few.  The one Peter is standing next to is a McClusky built coupe owned by a friend.  And just for fun here is Shelby next to a Cobra at Lime Rock CT in 2000.

Merry new year

Mecum auctions Kissimmee is starting the new year off with some cool vintage racers - a Gurney Indy Eagle with a great history - a Shelby King Cobra Monaco in guardsman blue - and a Ford GT40 - Mark IV -  chassis J10 - which has an interesting history - J10 did not compete at Sebring or Lemans - but had an active racing career as an open top car in Can Am - its restoration is to LeMans specs - i saw J10 years ago at a GT40 reunion at Daytona - it’s a great looking car…

Corvette Grand Sport #4

Okay you asked for it. Your post made me wonder when I last did an update as it seemed like a long time ago. It actually was over a month ago but only one page back. Because the deadline is so far off I guess no one is feeling much urgency. Since that last post I have completed two other models and started two more.

I have never been able to find the full story on why Hall & Penske decided it was better to tape over the hood louvers when they were installed to exhaust under hood heat and air pressure which caused the front to lift but I have always preferred the look. Rather than install the complex photo-etched louvers I decided  to close the openings from below and then fair them in. Once painted I will cover the areas with white tape. The Hall/Penske did such a good job taping over the louvers that in most photos the taping is impossible to detect.

Don't forget this great thread fellows. We need to keep it alive while our master Andy is living the dream in Ferrari wonderland.

So far only 2 entries on the starting grid...patiently waiting for others to join.

Pierre I am back to work on my model of the Hall/Penske Grand Sport and referred to your excellent WIP thread regarding your GS build for getting the rear of the chassis to fit properly. I likely would not have discovered the fitment issues until after painting otherwise, without your excellent tutorial. Thanks Pierre.

To summarize for others, it is necessary to trim the cut outs in the inner fender liners to give clearance for the roll bar supports otherwise the frame will not mate properly with the under floor. The gas tank needs to be reduced in height to give adequate clearance for the differential. I also filled in the slots on the bottom of the frame.

My build is the Accurate Miniatures 1963 Grand Sport. I’ve had it in my stash for many years and with ACME show coming up in October with the Corvette theme wanted to start it up. Started to research the #4 Corvette that was driven by Jim Hall and Roger Penske. This kit looked somewhat basic for detail but is pretty nice.
I started with the engine with plans to install throttle linkages and fuel lines.

Are the Webers an linkage stock kit parts?  The carbs look to be cast metal. ?

Posted

Those are the carbs that came with the kit, I painted them flat aluminum and the velocity stacks Alclad 2 polished aluminum.

This kit comes with the fittings for the air jacks and oil filler on the right fender that Jim Hall installed at Chaparral after Roger sent the car to him. I do not want to cover and fill over them and since there is a #4 Penske/Hall Corvette being built, I will bow out of this build.

thanks

Hey Scott - Like Andrews says "build it and post it". The more the merrier !! Or ay least do your own On The Workbench WIP thread as I have.  I am certainly curious about your build as you have obviously well researched the Hall/Penske Grand Sport.

I want to do the #11 Cobra, but the version I really want to do is the restored car. It has been restored to its Daytona livery and has been a frequent sight at the Monterey Historic Races each year.

Plan on starting the #80 Cobra 289 CSX2127, is this one still available? I need some help on where to find some accurate information about the engine detail, interior and overall car that ran in the 64 Sebring race. I found some current info on CSX2127 it now has a roof added and still runs events.

I finished the unofficial #4 Corvette Grand Sport. I changed up the seatbelts, didn't add the extra coolers to the rear fenders and kept the original single cooler. I cut the trunk and the service door for the brake booster open, moved the battery from the front of the car to the correct trunk area. filled in the bottom of the frame, added brake and fuel lines to the dual fuel pumps. made the knock off hubs and added alignment pins for the rims that also have holes for the pins and valve stems. I first added braided fuel lines to the engine but didn't like them and went to smaller black braided fuel lines that come off the fuel pressure regulator.
