ModelcarJR Posted July 7, 2024 Posted July 7, 2024 That is just beautiful work, Greg! This 32 will look great when done! ??? 2
bobss396 Posted July 7, 2024 Posted July 7, 2024 I like the mirrors. Parts By Parks used to make some hotrod mirrors that were very nice. 2
NOBLNG Posted July 7, 2024 Author Posted July 7, 2024 (edited) I just glued the dash in place and went to put the steering column in place when I realized it hangs WAAY too low.? A vehicle like this with such a cramped interior really needs a tilt column.? I hate doing mods like this after paint. Lesson learned…maybe.? Anyhow…I managed to file the slot up higher and clip the mount shorter.? I shortened the column a tad too. I also shortened the shifter a bit and switched the piston for a ball. I did manage stay up past my bedtime and get some paint on the body last night. It’s Tamiya LP-20 light gunmetal. Edited July 7, 2024 by NOBLNG 7
Steve H Posted July 7, 2024 Posted July 7, 2024 Good save on the steering column Greg. This is a wicked cool build. The aggressive stance is perfect, and the gunmetal and red look really nice together. Great work as always sir! 2
Zippi Posted July 7, 2024 Posted July 7, 2024 Yeah....it's got that Gangster look with the Tamiya LIght Gun Metal. Looking pretty spiffy there Greg. 1

Sometimes lowering the point where the steering column meets the toe board, by that I mean close to the bottom edge of the toe board where it meets the flat floor, can change the angle of the column and the position of the steering wheel. Like the paint color and the way the interior works with it.
bobss396 Posted July 8, 2024 Posted July 8, 2024 With steering columns, I rarely use the kit supplied one. I use either Evergreen rod or aluminum tube. The tube is preferred so I don't have to paint it. I don't use the "notch" it fits into. I use plastic channel or a piece of .010" aluminum. I have it so it "plugs" into the floor. This way I can fine-tune the column length at assembly if need be. 1
mrm Posted July 8, 2024 Posted July 8, 2024 I love your color combo. The red interior looks super nice on that light gunmetal. I just don't understand why did the grille have to move so far forward?
Andrew McD Posted July 8, 2024 Posted July 8, 2024 Really cool hot rod. Your attention to detail and creative building techniques are always inspiring!

I didn’t want to move the column down below the clutch and brake pedals, so shortening the upper mount was the easiest in this case.? 1

I just don't understand why did the grille have to move so far forward? Thanks Michael. Because I channeled it and wanted to keep the hood. I would have had to section the grill too much in order to keep the hood level. I think the drastically sectioned grill would have looked odd. The lengthened hood is not nearly as obtrusive. Edit: Here it is with the sectioned grill which would still need to be lowered to get the hood level. I didn’t like the look of it.? I did have to section the radiator which also sits on top of the front suspension crossmember. So since I now have space, I added thickness to the rad to increase cooling capacity.? redscampi Posted July 8, 2024 Posted July 8, 2024 This is a really great looking build. The interior really pops! Also, nice save with the steering wheel.

I get the difference in height because of the channel job, but you don't have to section the grille. just the radiator and the back side of the grille shell, which would allow you to sit it lower without moving it forward. Here I filled mine because I am going to use a see through photo etched one, but if you are using the kit's grille you don't even have to do that.

I had considered just notching the grill back, but that would leave a real skinny sliver below the crossmember. I would likely have filled it so only a notch for the crossmember remained, and I am going to make a mesh grill for it. The lengthened hood also gives it a slightly unique look that isn’t unsightly…at least in my mind. BTW, that Ardun flattie you’re building is gonna look awesome in that truck!? NOBLNG Posted July 18, 2024 Author Posted July 18, 2024 Finally got the suspension all installed. Once I get the glass in the cab, the body can go on permanent.? 4
Zippi Posted July 19, 2024 Posted July 19, 2024 That is just looking killer Greg. That body color is Super kewl and I'm loving those Big ole meats in the back.

NOBLNG Posted July 19, 2024 Author Posted July 19, 2024 (edited) I screwed up in my assembly order.? There is no way the body shell was going to sit down easily on the fenders without being firmly held in place. So I had to disassemble it enough to get two of the screws back in place.? It all went pretty well, and I was able to break the CA joints without damage to anything but the paint...and the driveshaft.? Then I used copious amounts of epoxy to hold the front of the cab down.? I pity anyone who tries to rebuild one of my models.? But I got it back together, and now it’s just a matter of adding the door handles and a few details. Thanks for looking.? Steve H Posted July 19, 2024 Posted July 19, 2024 Looks fantastic Greg! Love the stance, the big motor, stacks peeking thru the hood, great wheels, and cleanly built. She’s a beauty. The body/interior colours really work well too. Cheers, Steve 1
NOBLNG Posted July 19, 2024 Author Posted July 19, 2024 I’m calling this one done. Thanks All for the support and encouragement.? Pics under glass here: https://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/193481-boss-‘32-deuce/ 2
