Joe Nunes Posted December 19, 2022 Author Posted December 19, 2022 Decided that, yes, I am going to separate the pedals so here goes... Joe 2
Joe Nunes Posted December 25, 2022 Author Posted December 25, 2022 (edited) The three pedals are separated now and ready for paint detail and such. Made up five "tuck and roll" pieces for the interior (to go with the two pieces for the seat). And the cleanup/sanding work is about to the point where I can call it ready for primer. I know...molasses moves faster than I do! ?? Joe Edited December 26, 2022 by Joe Nunes
bobthehobbyguy Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 Coming along nicely. You've done some nice work. Progress is what counts not how fast you go. 1
Joe Nunes Posted January 2, 2023 Author Posted January 2, 2023 The upper body welt needed a good sanding to make it look nice and uniform. I decided to just remove the welt and replace it with a piece of half-round plastic. Started to sand the welt off and as my eyes wandered around the work bench I saw my Empire 6” ruler made of tempered stainless steel. Running the sharp tool edge over the plastic welt resulted in a flat, smooth, removal of the welt plastic and brought the welt height down to where it is even with the body plastic. I have already scribed a relief below the original welt material so now I can glue the new half round welt plastic to replace the original uneven upper body welt. Joe 1
iBorg Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 Serious question.....what scale is this? I remember looking at one and thinking it was bigger than 1/24. I'm still impressed with how nicely this one is coming along. 1
Joe Nunes Posted January 2, 2023 Author Posted January 2, 2023 1/24 scale as called out on the kit box. This was a standard scale for Monogram although they released a '32 coupe with a clear top in a slightly larger scale. I have a kit of that release down in my shop so I will see what scale that kit is. Joe
Straightliner59 Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 Excellent work with the welting, Joe! That's a good idea, too! 1
TooOld Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 You're doing a superb job on this Joe , it's going to be winner when finished ! I've always wanted to build a Green Hornet and you've set the bar pretty high . 1
Joe Nunes Posted January 6, 2023 Author Posted January 6, 2023 There is an area on the body that keeps getting my attention and I thought I would call it out for you so you can be aware. The joint between the cowl piece and body sides can separate due to there not being much plastic material for a secure glued butt joint (can I really say that here? ?) The joint on the port side has started to come apart a couple of times so far on the build. I glued the cowl to the body again this morning and have decided to install a piece of flat plastic across the glued joint, on the inside of the body, to reinforce the area and as an aid to keep the parts together. I will make the reinforcement pieces to look like upholstered strike pads where a driver’s foot might contact the inside of the body. Nothing fancy but it should do the job for me. Joe 1
Paul Payne Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 Good to see this build get 3d interior panels! All other work looks really good1 1

Joe Wise choice! I love mine! Just stock up on filters. I bought a box of a dozen on eBay cheaper than local! I love this project. I had fun with mine and I have a couple of these set aside for future projects 1
Joe Nunes Posted January 18, 2023 Author Posted January 18, 2023 Tonight I enjoyed some time at the bench. Decided to see if I could glue the new upper body welt line using only one piece of half round material so there would not be any breaks in the welt from one side to the other. A length of Plastruct .040”/1.0mm half round was pulled from the package, I think I took a deep breath, and I started the gluing procedure. Moving slowly, and using various sizes of clothes pins for clamps, the half round was successfully glued onto the body. A new experience! ? Joe 3
Joe Nunes Posted January 18, 2023 Author Posted January 18, 2023 Went down to the bench this morning and took the clothes pin clamps off the body. Had to play around with the model for a few moments. The top is sitting on the body without pins, glue or tape. Joyce thought it looked cute! ? Joe 3
TooOld Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 Lookin' really really good Joe ! Nice job laying that half round down around the body , it's not as easy as it looks ! 1
Pierre Rivard Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 Just caught up with this thread Joe. I'm really enjoying your craftsmanship. Good stuff! 1
Joe Nunes Posted January 20, 2023 Author Posted January 20, 2023 Have been looking at the back window opening on the top. Decided I didn’t want to leave it as a “hole” on the model. A window surround was made for the inside of the top from the same plastic sheet material used to make the details for the inside of the body. I thought it looked good on the inside of the top, so, I tried it out on the outside of the rear window and will be making a matching design outside surround, too. Perhaps a wee bit more narrow though for the surround outside width dimension on each of the four sides so it won’t be overbearing in size. ? Joe 1
Joe Nunes Posted January 21, 2023 Author Posted January 21, 2023 (edited) Made up a new outside window molding piece for the top and I like the new size better. The original window molding piece will work better for the inside of the top. Also am considering a small piece of the plastic sheet for the firewall, similar to the addition to my AMT 1936 Ford Roadster build as shown in an included photo. Once that’s made I can do a bit more final sanding and then wash the parts in preparation for the primer coat. I have included a photo showing my color choice for the major items; straight out of the can for the body, and grill. The frame rails and engine block will be body color with a Testors Dull Cote overspray to break up the color sheen a bit. Interior will be white with body color accents. Have not decided on the color for the top just yet. ? Joe Edited January 22, 2023 by Joe Nunes 2
