Pierre Rivard Posted March 10, 2023 Author Posted March 10, 2023 Recovered from a moment of laziness.... brake ducts done! 4
1959scudetto Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 Watching your extremely convincing detailing, Pierre, I'm almost regretting that I sold this kit - it looked too primitive. But you prove again what can be made of this - excellent oil-cooler detail for example. 1
Pierre Rivard Posted March 10, 2023 Author Posted March 10, 2023 Thanks Helmut. It is a primitive kit but the body is cast in a very convincing way, so with a few adds hopefully this can become a nice curbside model of a beautiful race car. The next little add is to relocate the spoiler actuator and fabricate it a bit more to scale. 1
Pierre Rivard Posted March 10, 2023 Author Posted March 10, 2023 Last little upgrade is to make the exhaust outlets a bit more realistic. I drilled out the ones molder in the rear valance and made new tips from hollowed out 3.2 mm styrene tubes. I'm not doing anything about the meshing like the top builders can do and will try to make it work with paints and washes. 4

Agreed. These ancient monogram kits, essentially slot-car "hardboldies", were well designed from a "faithful to the lines and proportions of the original" standpoint. Minor upgrades have the potential to turn them into stunning models. Edited March 10, 2023 by Ace-Garageguy 2
David G. Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 Good call on the brake ducts, I also like all the other little bits you're adding. As I say, sometimes the smallest details can have the largest impact. David G.
Dave B Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 Looking good to me Pierre, keep the updates coming. Dave B
Pierre Rivard Posted March 13, 2023 Author Posted March 13, 2023 Completed the basic interior and added very little: a shifter and dressing up the gauges. Also prepped and painted (primer & color coat) the body. Clear tomorrow. getting close. 1
Gramps46 Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 Looking real good. Looking forward to the finish.
Nacho Z Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 She is coming along nicely! Your additions to the kit are great!
Pierre Rivard Posted March 14, 2023 Author Posted March 14, 2023 Thanks guys. I cleared the body this morning. 2 coats Tamiya acrylic brushed on with one hour gap. This body is a bit complicated for brush painting so I added more thinner and retarder to give me a few extra seconds to lay the paint to all surfaces. In the end it smoothed out good and polishing requirements will be minimal. Next steps are to do the polishing, black detailing and washes for the meshing, decals and a coat of Future. 3
1959scudetto Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 This gives me some inspirations for my Chaparral 2 C, which I'm working on and off when I'm in the mood, Pierre. 1
TooOld Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 The paint on the body looks nice and smooth , after your detailing it should look awesome !
Pierre Rivard Posted March 15, 2023 Author Posted March 15, 2023 2 hours ago, TooOld said: The paint on the body looks nice and smooth , after your detailing it should look awesome ! Thanks Bob. It's not possible for me to spray so I have developed ways to brush paint which require extra steps to get a good finish. The picture does not show it but there are very fine brush marks which I will eliminate with a bit of 4000 or 6000 sanding perpendicular to the brush stroke direction, followed by Tamiya fine and finish rubs.
Pierre Rivard Posted March 15, 2023 Author Posted March 15, 2023 Trying to bring a bit of life to the screened areas using a variety of Vallejo washes. It's still lacking in my opinion. Considering perhaps a delicate rub with Tamiya weathering silver to the screens... I "dunno" advice please? 1
Pierre Rivard Posted March 15, 2023 Author Posted March 15, 2023 Working decals is something I never cover in a w.i.p. but there is an idea I want to share for those considering building this lit. The car has unique door latch handles molded in the body and the "65" decal covers it. Thinking of the challenge of making the decal conform and look correct I chose to take another path. Not sure it is better but an alternative to consider. 1
TooOld Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 Yep that works ! Maybe a little black paint to complete the missing parts of the 6 and 5 . And the rear screens look good to me the way they are now . You could try the Tamiya weathering powder but I'd be worried about it getting into the black wash . . . maybe practice on something similar first .

Smilesperhour Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 Oil cooler and the engine look great!!!! I think open upn the brake ducts
Pierre Rivard Posted March 15, 2023 Author Posted March 15, 2023 Thanks guys. Following Bob's suggestion, Tamiya weathering added to screens. Not perfect but good enough for a 35 part kit. ? 3
