I feel your pain. Every time I think I'm finished buying, I see another build on here that sends me off looking for "just one more", and in the course of the search I come across several more that I "have" to have.

But it's way cheaper than sitting in a bar for hours every nite, literally flushing money down the john, and nobody's ever been arrested for driving while in possession of a ridiculously large model stash...and I never ever get a hangover from working late on a model.  B)

What Bill said. ?  And strip clubs really vaporize your ?$$$?, so it could be worse, stop complaining. ?  Give some of those to kids, get them addicted early, be a bad influence.

that would depend on which glue you use, araldite gives me a banging sore head the next day, even if i use it in the booth with it running full power. Its even worse if i eat grapefruit for breakfast but then grapefruit shouldn't be eaten if your on medication as something about it changes how they affect you

Same here.   I've bought kits I had no interest in until someone on here posted a really clean,  sharp  version.   Then, suddenly I have to find one!

In the 1990's Lionel STANDARD gauge trains (BIG trains not the O we know today) flooded the market as those that collected them were born 1890-1910 and were passing away. Most current collectors had no connection with trains made in the 1930's so Lionel STANDARD value went from HIGH to can't give them away. I knida feel the same thing coming on with plastic models.

BUT it ain't slowing me down none!!!!

Yeah, with more and more graybeards dropping of their perches every day, the preponderance of purplehairs having zero physical skills and no desire to acquire any ("my dream is to be a social-media influencer and glue and tools and paint are dangerous and icky anyway...OMG OMG OMG!!!"), and the concentrated global effort to destroy the petroleum industry, plastic models are on the short-time list.

Gather ye rosebuds while ye may...

Unless you buy a collection that fills your car up to the point you can't see out save for the windshield ?

Me too, I've been in FB jail, repeat offender and had my Twitter account suspended... My work there is done.

Seriously though, my father built models and passed the addiction to me but I'm good with that. I've been selling off my ridiculous stash over the last few years but somehow every now and then something seems to follow me how after a show or club meeting. My most excellent wife has no issues with my various hobbies and at times is shockingly supportive. Because of that I do have a number of plans depending on who's left amongst my friends when I eventually go room temperature. I've always been honest about what my stuff is worth and anything I've bought has been with money made within my hobbies so I'm not taking food off the table to support this incurable addiction.

My wife & I split our discretionary funds ($ after bills & savings) and do whatever we want with it, so she never has an issue with my hobby. I just have to make sure it stays confined to the workshop, and that includes smells. I too promised not to buy more kits, and have kept the stash "comparatively" low, but every now & then temptation wins.

I’ll buy just about any model for $5-$20 at the flea market….just in case it has parts I may need some day.?

Yup. And when I hear about folks who throw the leftover parts away when they finish a kit...

why oh why - quickmeme

This comment made me remember something painful. I'm ashamed to say that I, not once, but twice have thrown away my entire collection of kits. First time was when I went to college. I was a "grown up" and didn't have time for them...I thought. Last time was in the early 1980s. I was making a cross country move and simply didn't have room for them. I didn't have time or a method to sell them and had no friends who wanted them, so into the dumpster they went. I remember cringing just a bit when I actually compressed the kits by standing on them to make more room. Not my finest hour...

I did something very similar.  When I turned 16 I threw away all but two of my old built ups and about 90% of my unbuilt kits.  If it wasn’t related to cars, girls, or alcohol, I wasn’t interested at that time.

Still kicking myself for that move.

I had to give everything away for a cross country move...and that was part of why I stayed away for so long. I still miss my old collection but (insert appropriate profanity)- it. I missed building, so I'm starting over kit by kit, piece by piece. I can't really "afford" it but it makes me happy again.

I lost the kits of my youth in a more traditional way, evil stepmother. :D

I lost mine because, when I was on the other side of the planet helping to win hearts and minds, my then-significant-other couldn't be bothered to keep up with my $25 monthly storage unit rent, a unit that also contained many hundreds of dollars worth of vintage Porsche parts and tools. Same little chickie sold my running Karmann Ghia, BMW 700 coupe, and '60 Corvair 4-door for scrap metal prices. She sure was cute, though.
