Can-Con Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 Starting the rebuild of this '77 Volare Road Runner I've had for years. Getting a bit more radical with it but not too radical. Hemi from the reissued '76 Dart Sport. Intake manifold from the MPC '69 Charger Daytona and blower and hat from the Revell '68 Vette. It will be slightly tubbed. 11
Can-Con Posted June 18, 2023 Author Posted June 18, 2023 A few more pics. I glued the engine bay to the body and cut it from the chassis plate so I can eliminate the seams where it connects to the fenders and cowl. Also trimmed the rear wheel area for clearance of the tires. Wheels are from the AMT '55 Chevy sedan. This is about where I want the ride height. 4
Can-Con Posted July 3, 2023 Author Posted July 3, 2023 Here's a little more progress. Have the wheel tubs done. Not real pretty but they don't need to be. They can't be seen with the tires on. Also have been working on the front air dam. The ends are the last leftover, ruff parts I cast from my original Super Pac Road Runner that made the cover of MCM years ago and the center section is in the last issue of the '80 from a couple years ago. Unfortunately, the center is the only part still in the kit. 2
Can-Con Posted July 16, 2023 Author Posted July 16, 2023 A few more pics. painted and decaled. They were a chore to put on and need some touchups before clearcoat but they're on. Rear tires and suspension are set. This will be the final stance. Did a simple 4 bar setup for the rear suspension using the kit rear end and the tabs molded to the frame to hold the metal axle. I have a pair of coil-overs with the paint drying to put on later. 2
Ulf Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 Fantastic project, nice work on closing the sun hatch. Replacing the sun and targa roofs really requires skill. It's inspiring to see some different cars here at the forum. 1
Can-Con Posted July 20, 2023 Author Posted July 20, 2023 Another little mockup ,, In the memorable words of the incomparable Colin Hay, "It's just overkill" The hood should fit down no problem, right , , right??? 3
Can-Con Posted July 29, 2023 Author Posted July 29, 2023 Interior is mostly done. I still need to add a shifter handle. and I think I'll add the brake, gas and clutch pedals. Also strongly considering adding a 4-point roll bar and maybe seatbelts??? 2
Can-Con Posted August 5, 2023 Author Posted August 5, 2023 Made up a 6 point roll bar. Probably should add a verticle bar across the main hoop too. Also did the plug wires on the engine.
Can-Con Posted August 6, 2023 Author Posted August 6, 2023 (edited) Was very nervous about cutting the hole in that hood. They're not exactly easy to come by any more. But, I did it and added a little flat black accent. I'll let it dry overnight, clean it up a bit and foil the trim tomorrow. Edited August 6, 2023 by Can-Con 4
Scott8950 Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 Great looking car and not one you see often. Nice job 1
ea0863 Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 This is coming out AWESOME! Talk about making a silk purse out of a sow's ear (the sow's ear in my life being my mother's '79 Volare with a slanted six) 1
Steve H Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 Really nice Steve! Loving how this is coming together. Stance looks great, and some nice detailing too. 1
Bainford Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 Very cool! The black patch on the hood really makes the look. 1
Zippi Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 Pretty kewl little project. Looking nice and I like the blower sticking out of the hood. 1
Can-Con Posted August 25, 2023 Author Posted August 25, 2023 Took a couple shots of the finished interior before gluing it in , , I have to add a couple things on the engine before it goes in permanently , , , ,And the chassis is set up with all the wheels on and the final ride height set. 2
