about 1 month ago my knee started hurting in the back on the muscles area. it hasnt gotten better so i went to the doctor. they told me to see an ortho and sent me on my way, but was happy to collect my copay for doing literally nothing but saying see a specialist.

so i went to the ortho, and they did an xray and told me that i have arthritis in my knee, and gave me a shot. they refused to listen when i told them its in the muscle area and that it only hurts when its fully extended. they gave me a shot in my knee and now my knee hurts worse than it has before. i have arthritis in my hands and this is completely different.

this is why i dont go to the doctors. i might just put an ace bandage on it so i cant fully extend it and see if it heals itself

Sorry to hear about your suffering. One thing I've learned is that many doctors rely too much on past experience and don't really listen to their patients regarding their specific problem. I've read that on many posts on medical sites as well. Good luck.

If it's just in the muscle, it should heal on it's own eventually.

That could be the reason that they passed you around.

If it's not tendon damage, or in the joint itself, there's probably not a lot that they can do, short of wrapping it up and letting nature take it's course.

I'm no doctor, but I do know that as I get older, I have more and more weird aches and pains, and very often, they take quite a long time to go away.

Just part of getting old I guess.

After your hour wait in the waiting room. How old are you? you are too fat, tell me something I don't know. So why aren't on these 12 meds, oh you are stubborn and don't frequent the med hut. Send them down the road.  Take a Pill for this and a pill to fix what the other pill causes. Can we ever get help? Sorry rant over.

Find different doctors. If they give you an after visit survey, let 'm have it. For what it's worth, I've found non-profit medical orgs much better than for-profits.

I agree with that wholeheartedly.!

I was lucky enough for many years to have my medical care taken care of at The Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota. (a non-profit)

If they couldn't help you, nobody could.

Now that I live in another area, who knows what I'll get.

Even though I'm now employed at a local for profit medical facility, I don't have a huge amount of faith when I compare them to what I used to have.

But, I digress.

Doctors are not miracle workers.

They don't always have all of the answers.

The human body is a little more complicated than a car, yet how many of us have taken a car in for repairs numerous times for a problem that they can't figure out.

Just a thought.

Not for profit doctors?!  Where you find them (and who accept insurance) in USA?  Medical field is a huge for-profit system.

And doctors, just like with other professions: car mechanics, construction, workers, dentists, computer techs., house painters, gardeners (and every other profession or trade), there are good and not so good people out there.  It stinks, but that's the reality.  Yes, it would be good idea to try another doctor, hoping that they will be better as the old one.

There are plenty of non-profit medical facilities.

The entire Mayo network is non-profit, and just like any other facility, they accept insurance, as well as treat the uninsured.

Doctors at Mayo are salaried and they don't profit from the ordering of extra tests or prescribing drugs that aren't necessary.

They get paid the same salary regardless, as does everyone in leadership.

Every year, the Mayo network is audited, and any profits made must be used for improvements within the system.

Nobody gets to line their pockets, unless some of the money is returned to the employees in the form of raises, etc.

When it comes to delivering healthcare, the organization matters. It sets standards of conduct and performance expectations. I'm in the San Diego California area. The two biggest, and best systems are non-profit. One is independent, and the other is affiliated with University of California at San Diego. I've used both non-profit systems, and both are much better than the for-profit medical facilities.

My doctors are affiliated w/ the Cleveland Clinic, usually ranked #2 behind the Mayo Clinic in the US in most all categories, #1 in some.   Generally found their care to be top-notch.  I have early signs of arthritis, not a surprise as both my siblings and parents have/had a variety of arthritis conditions.   One reason why I installed a hot tub at my new house, hydrotherapy is very good for joint issues and inflammation..

The knee is the biggest joint in the human (biped) body. It takes a lot of stress and works under incredible demands -- a chain's only as strong as its weakest link.

Could be bursæ (the fluid sacs - think : bursitis ; swelling ( "-itis" ) of the bursæ ).
Could be tendonitis ( swelling/irritation of the tendons).
Could be emanating from the lumbar regions' facet joints.

Or it could be muscle(s).

As one whom suffers from arthritis, and herniated discs in my cervical and lumbar regions, I (literally) feel your pain.

If you have access to a swimming pool (preferably heated/temperature controlled) , you may consider stretching/bending your legs in the water. I know that it's helped me.

Best of luck to you.

I have knee issues, one of which is arthritis that is progressing faster than I care to admit. You've gotten some good advice in this thread.

Part of the reason I'm moving to the coast is to be able to go for a swim whenever I can. The saltwater in the ocean has tremendous properties that are desirable to the human body. Granted not everyone can do this, but it's worth posting.

I'm two weeks out from having the left knee scoped and was off crutches within a week. Steps are a struggle but considering there was a potential of up to 12 weeks in a brace and crutches, I'll take it.  I ended my assistant coaching of baseball and basketball ater tearing the right one for a second time about 18 months ago!  I inherited the bad knees from my mom's paternal grandfather.  Dr said I'm heading towards replacement on both due to arthritis.  I have a brace with the gel donut that holds the knee cap in place which wear for walking distance or standing in one spot for long which helps.

Years ago, I worked at Dicks Sporting Goods and one of my co workers was a big beliver in KT Tape.  I've never used it but several people that played basketball and volleyball swear by it

The last 6 years were the first time that I lived in a house w/ stairs since 1990...I realized after 6 years in a split level that I really, really missed a 1 story house.  Part of why I'm moving now, easier on my knees and other joints as I get older..

Sounds like you had a quack of an ortho doc who REFUSES to listen. Time to find a good doctor who will listen.

Muscle pain and arthritis are two different things. Arthritis is bone related. Obviously the ortho doc doesn't know the difference. Your best bet is find a good sports therapist center that knows how to treat your issues. They work wonders and will do exercises for you and do some at home on your own.

Re reading your post, I would have refused the shot on your knee right then and there. Now you're paying the price on a needless shot you didn't need. I'd sue them for malpractice on grounds of misdiagnosis and his refusal to listen.
