1967 VW Baja Buggy

Revelle's '68 VW Beetle kit with a conversion from Texas 3D Customs. Many years ago, I had a Baja Buggy made from a '67 VW and a then available fiber glass kit for a full-sized Type 1. So far, I have removed part of the front fenders and hood area along with the rear fenders and engine cover. There will be some mods done to the Texas 3D parts, but only because there are some differences between what I had and what is available.

This will be a cool build David, look forward to seeing what you do with this kit. I have ordered parts from Joel at Texas 3d customs, and very pleased with quality and service.

Cheers, Steve

I agree with you both. I have been watching what he has been doing on the Baja Bug conversion and when he offered the narrow headlight version, I ordered mine. The parts are all well done needing only a minimum of prep for paint. In my case the car I had was just a little different in the rear air intake below the rear window and the shape of the rear fenders. I would still suggest his kits for any builder wanting to do something like this. I'm going to do a little reshaping here and there just because I'm trying to replicate a specific vehicle from the past. I'm also impressed with the basic Revelle kit. I wouldn't normally build this subject but based on what I'm seeing with the basic kit I plan to build a slightly modified version in the near future.

TAny of the 3 different kits are worth every penny. The lift spindles on the front that Charles came up with are works of art. When he sent the first prototype to me, it was before it had a lift kit and I worked with him on this. The rear was fairly easy, but my front solution was a little crude although, the front wheels would still steer. His lifted spindles were much better, and I was a big fan of both the front and rear tube bumpers. Next came the modified dual carb engine and I also like the stinger exhaust he offers. Texas 3D Customs is a one stop shop for everything Baja bug model kit. 2 thumbs up. 👍👍

I was especially fond of the Jackman style rims I used in mine. T3D makes very nice stuff !!!

Been busy with life so not much has happened with this until now. I'm adding a picture of the original Baja that I owned, and the picture was taken at pismo Beach around 1976. The little girl was my stepdaughter at the time. Her mother and I were uncomeatable to say the least and I have no idea of the little girls wear abouts. She was a very sweet young lady and I do hope her life has been rich and fulfilling for her. The interior is done and the colors and finishes pretty well match the Baja. The engine is ready to go into the chassis which is what I'm working on now. The rear fenders have been reshaped to match the ones on my Baja, and the fronts are very close.

Did you do the original custom modes on the 1/1 version with the early VW bus taillights?

I bought the car from a guy who was building it and he had run out of money. He had already put the "bus" taillights in the fenders. I thought they looked great and being a small car, in traffic on the freeway, a very good idea.

Got the final coat of Tamiya gloss white and clear. A light polish and a little chrome foil trim. Wheels and tires are done. Time to put the interior in place and put it on the chassis. I have tinted the windows and adding chrome foil to the moldings on the windows.
