slusher Posted August 31, 2023 Posted August 31, 2023 I know if you break open a dirt dobers bust they have spiders small ones for their young to eat while developing. 1
NOBLNG Posted October 29, 2023 Posted October 29, 2023 (edited) I put my old Willys truck in the garage to clean it up a bit (it’s been parked near the bush for the last couple of years). This big guy was living on it somewhere, along with at least three slightly smaller ones. I took him inside to show the wife…then gave him a merciful ending. Edited October 29, 2023 by NOBLNG
TonyK Posted October 29, 2023 Posted October 29, 2023 That doesn't even look real! Looks like something in a sci-fi movie. Dam!
bobss396 Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 I had these big reddish spiders on my back porch. The body was as big as a penny. These would put up webs outside at night to catch whatever came along... then they took the webs down during the day... diabolical to say the least. Early one late summer morning, I was walking between some bushes and the pool. I got mixed up in the web... I had to dive into the pool to get it off me. A few hours later I had a welt on my forehead as big as a half dollar piece. Little bumps all over it and it itched. Off to the doctor, got an antibiotic and tetanus shot. It took a few months for the spot to fade. I got my Ford delivered from Denver in 2014. That had spider NESTS under it and I got bit on my hand in 3 places. Luckily it was not poisonous and while it swelled for a few days, no permanent damage.

I would have run the other way screaming like a little girl.
GLMFAA1 Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 I don't kill spiders because of an old 'Night Gallery' episode where a man constantly washes a spider down the drain and every time he does it it grows bigger!. greg
peteski Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 I leave spiders alone in my basement because they catch and eat other bugs that find their way in there. The dead bug shells under the web are a proof that those spiders are doing their job. It is like having a free environmentally-friendly exterminator service. It is also amazing the a spider can trap and eat bugs much larger then they are.

I guess I should have released it.? oh well, I don’t think I made a dent in the population.

Spiders here are not very scary looking. The nastiest ones are the ones that look muscular and move very fast, but I seldom see them indoors, and they don't usually get larger than 3/4". The largest ones are what we call "daddy long-leg". They can be around 2" in size, but they have tiny bodies, and very long spindly legs. They don't spin webs, and as I understand, the aren't even real spiders. If I find one indoors, I just grab it by a leg and take it outside.

If I get one in the house I move them outside.

I put him far enough in the woods that I wouldn’t disturb or hurt him the rest of the afternoon. Last spring I had baby ringed snakes hatch in my office building. Didn’t find the nest but they were all over the first floor. We kept collecting them in coffee cups and putting them in the woods out back. That went on for two weeks. I got a panic call from the CEOs assistant. She said there was a baby dinosaur on her desk watching her. I thought this could be interesting and not knowing what to expect I brought a box. Big disappointment! It was a stink bug! I would’ve liked to have a baby dinosaur! Stink bugs get flushed! 1
bobss396 Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 I had heard about things called "wolf" crickets. My cat was chasing after one a few nights ago. I got up to see what it was... holy carp.... I gave it a few tries to stomp on it, but it jumped out of the way. I finally dropped a box on it... squish.
