A thought if you're going with wide tires that will not fit inside the stock rear wheel wells. The kits front mounting point for the rear leaf springs are on the outboard side of the frame just like the real cars. First replicate the mounting point on the inside of the frame. Moving the front mounting point will create some clearance issues between the rear portion of the leaf spring and the kits exhaust. Minor rerouting of the exhaust pipes or even changing their exit point would not be hard to do. This would give you a little more rear tire clearance even without narrowing the rear differential or tubbing the rear wheel well. The last one I built I used the optional "California Wheels and Tires" from in of the '56 Chevy kits and everything cleared with zero modification, other than lowering the suspension.

Thanks David. These rally wheels and tires fit nicely, and I can use the original wheel backs from the kit…so they win out. I doubt I will ever build the CW kit, so I will keep it sealed and trade it?

The wheels and ride height are now set in epoxy. I decided to use the rally wheels because: a) In the 1:1 world they would be a cheap and easy upgrade…the lug pattern is the same and you could get them for a song from anyone who put mags on their Chevy muscle car, and b) they are a cheap and easy upgrade for me now.? I raised the “spindles” .157” which dropped the front end a scale 4”, and I actually raised the rear a touch with some custom air bags.? I didn’t want the rims tucked up inside the fenders.

 



I also got the engine mostly detailed and installed. I had originally painted the engine chevy orange, but through my research, discovered that the ‘56s were red…so I shot some red over the orange. I made up some power steering hoses for it, and installed some pins for heater hoses to connect to.

Typical me…getting ahead of myself.? I went and installed the rear suspension and then couldn’t get the exhaust system in place.? I pinned the splices and covered them with a couple of craft wire u-bolts.

 

I’m not sure what these exhaust hangers are doing out in the middle of nowhere…just hangin’ out I guess?? So I made a couple that look like they might possibly hold something in place.

 

I added some thickness to the rear frame horns and then drilled right through the bumper and installed some .050” styrene pins. It will be an easy install after I spray it and the other parts with the Revell chrome.

Got. Bit of work done on the interior. Ignore the ejection pin marks on the floor, I still have the carpet to do.

I foiled the script and got the Tamiya Pure White sprayed on the back half.

 

I sprayed some Revell chrome into a plastic shot glass and used a pipette to transfer it to the airbrush cup. It sprays beautifully through the airbrush!? It is extremely thin stuff though and will drip right out of the pipette if you’re not quick about it.?

I managed to get the grill detailed, the body painted, and the foil work done. This thing is harder to foil than the ‘59 Caddy!?

Two steps forward…six steps back.? I only had the antenna left to install when I dripped some CA on the roof. I tried filing and sanding it off and went through the paint.? I had given the entire thing a coat of Revell acrylic gloss, so no chance of just spraying another coat of Tamiya lacquer. So I tried stripping just the roof.? Eventually I decided to strip the whole thing.?

Dang it !!! That sucks about the paint Greg, especially after foil… This is another fantastic looking build. I think the rallye wheels are a perfect choice on this, they look great. As always you have addressed many “little” issues that combine into a beautiful looking model. What colour of blue did you use on the interior, it’s gorgeous!
