This is looking good already! While working on a replica of the black 55 Chevy for the crash scene of American Graffiti, I mocked up a Two Lane car while I was at the primer stage, and took a photo before I moved on. Just thrown together as you can tell. This is a Revell 56 Chevy hardtop with an AMT front clip as I needed the panels open for the crash aftermath. I believe those correct American Racing Daisy mags came from the back of the T -Rantula dragster.  Good luck with your project!

Cheers

Alan

I was going to use styrene for the hood scoop but I didn’t like the way that thickness was scaling. Made a pattern in AutoCAD and transferred it onto a pepsi can Then I used a photo etch bender to fold the edges.

The hood scoop looked a little too tall so I made a shorter one. Also trimmed around the trunk opening and put a trunk floor in

Trying to figure out how I’m going to do the front suspension. Mocked up for ride height and wheel gap. Might bring the rear down a little but I think I’m close.

Personally I think the whole car needs to come down just a smidgen. Also I don't know if you care about this but the real car has american racing daisy mags. Don't ask me what kit my wheels are from because they came from the parts box. You could probably find some on eBay or from a resin caster. All constructive criticism aside Looks great. The things got some really mean aditude, I LOVE IT!

Thank you for the comments. Will probably drop it a little.
Yes the wheels are not perfect but I don’t like the ones I’m finding on ebay. I’ll keep looking but if I don’t find a set I like I’ll just use what I have.

Progress has been kinda slow. Finally got the chassis where I’m happy with it. Started by cutting off the front frame rails and replacing with styrene strips. Made them a little short but I think I can make it work.
I made the transmission cross member from styrene rod and sheet and sprayed with Alclad chrome. I based it on a reference picture I found online

Also made the structure for the tilt front . I tried to mimic the actual support frame from pictures I found online.

Thanks guys. Really appreciate the compliment’s.

Took care of the hood pins for the trunk lid.
The pins that secure the hood are going to be tricky.

Interior is pretty much done. Still have to install the tach on top of the dashboard.
I shaped a piece of sheet styrene to the curve of the transmission tunnel and used a blob of Tamiya putty as the shifter boot. After it dried I filed, sanded and painted it flat black. The shifter is a piece of aluminum tube flattened and bent.

I just saw the movie last week and I've been thinking about doing a build myself. I'm glad this came up in my search. I'll be following this with interest and now I need to make a trip to my local Hobby Lobby.?

Between family and work this build stalled a little but I managed to get some more done. Since I don’t have a printer yet I had to use solder to make the headers. I’m pretty happy with the way they came out. First I super glued 4 long pieces together to form the collector then I bent each individual runner to try and match my reference pictures. The header flange is cut from a piece of styrene sheet. Then I cut the 4 long pieces to the correct length and used a piece of heat shrink tubing for the collectors with another piece of sheet styrene as the flange.
Sprayed with Tamiya white primer when done

Next time you're at Hobby Lobby, pick up an AMT 63 Impala.  It has a whole set of those American Daisy mags.

I bought a printed set online. Not exact copies of the ones in the movie but close. I’ll definitely check Hobby Lobby if I’m near there.
