There is quite a bit of work (dealing with that metal body) up ahead for you, Pierre.

But I can assure you, the styrene body kit shows the very same heavy parting lines... Anyway, the outcome will be great - of course,  I will follow your WIP.

I have several of these, one as a WIP Chevy-powered Bonneville contender.

That's NOT a "mold mismatch" around the rear wheel-arch.

It's a flange put there specifically to mount the fender skirts.

After you file down the body side parting lines, you'll need to re-scribe the door opening lines.

The best way to deal with the hood gap is to file the body on the front to allow the hood the slide a little farther back. Don't overdo it.

And there's some variation from body to body unfortunately.

The hood hinge slots in the firewall are huge and klugey too, and really need to be filled so as not to show...with smaller more prototypically correct hinges fitted.

The body is very well proportioned though, and responds beautifully to some metalwork...and the flanges for the rear skirts can be removed entirely OR minimized to the point they're almost invisible but still allow mounting the skirts with rubber cement or white glue if you want them to be removable for some reason.

One more thing...I'd recommend a self-etching automotive primer for the metal parts.

Thank you Gary for pulling all these great references from your database. This will be very useful when I reach the stage of selecting a specific car to depict with this build.

I'll be following this one.  Really interested in seeing what you do with it.  Many interesting possibilities.

The 21 car - in minty green - was auctioned or for sale this yr - post me if you cant find the pix … maybe Dutton’s UK on line sales listings - or ??  Head scratching …

This is a good kit choice - the die cast metal is a pain - but the kit features an unusually well detailed chassis - and the engine - as i recall - im 100 miles away fr my w/shop - is not half bad …

Hi Pierre,  this is a decent kit, built an OOB years ago and Ace Garageguys comments are spot on.  Looking forward to seeing it finished.

Pierre...you  have taken on a real challenge. Metal kits are something else. But you are off to a good start and have gotten lots of good feedback. I am quite sure you will persevere.

Indeed ken, many possibilities and I need to choose something. Definitely a race version of the car.

This is going to be really nice.

Thanks Mike. Metal body is a bit of a head scratcher but it is beautifully shaped.

Yup, nice kit. Engine is good enough for what I want to do but for not having a separate one piece oil pan. I hate that split in the middle of it.

Ace is the reference. He confirmed my thoughts on how to deal with the hood fit and so far the changes are working. The kit is good but I'll upgrade to better wheels & tires and I have to consider bucket seats for a race version.

So far so good Rich. The metal body is manageable for me as I just plan to make it smooth and clean without adding modifications. Why they did the body in metal escapes me but I don't mind working on something different.

I built the first issue (1977) of the Jag with the metal body and do not remember the problems mentioned except for the fit of the hood.  In fact, it is one of my favorite kits.  I did change the wheels though and used wheel centers from a Johan kit for JWK651

It looks fantastic Gary. And a driver figure adds so much interest, especially with an open cockpit car. I should consider that...

Great to see your back at it. Pierre. I have missed you performing your magic. This metal body is going to be super interesting to watch how you transform it.  Looks like you already have a great start going on.

Thanks Mark. The metal body is a bit unique but so far I really like this kit.

Looks like you figured out the hood. Fits like a glove now. The body prep is coming along very nicely. No one will ever know this body is metal unless you tell them.

I think it's great to see all the forum buddies trying to help out on your build. You've earned that respect, with all your great efforts(builds) and help you offer up.

Thanks Donato. I like it very much when others bring information and ideas to the table. That's what sharing a w.i.p. is all about.
