Looks like these will be a good alternative for those who haven't been able to track down an original one.  It would have been nice to see a separate hood, for those wanting to include an engine.

That said, I'm glad I got the original Jo-Han items that I have, when I did.  Not a "complete" collection by any means, but enough of the ones I really wanted.  I'll still be watching, to see if they come up with something I "need".

Holy Moses!!! $135 for THAT?

Compare that to what you get in that Tucker for an additional $45. Or while the subject matter is wildly different, what you get in Alpha Model or PZY/Kitbox kits for $25 more.

I know, I know, it's cheaper than an actual JoHan 66 Fury Convertible (and soon to be H/T) promo, but whoooo the value for the dollar on that is pretty dubious. No Chrome, no decals, no P/E...IMO that's on the wrong side of the "century mark" by almost as much as it's over.  The Dodge P/Us came with a whole pile of 3D goodies for less money.

I don't believe the price point could be where it's set without the "prestige" of having the old name attached and the idea that it's a copy of an actual item from said old name.  If it was just a stand alone resin cast piece from some random fella they would never be able to charge that much for it.

I didn't see the "no chrome".  $135 is about where Modelhaus would be if they were still around, and theirs would include plated parts and probably tires too.  Yeah, the "name" attached seems to be included in the price...

To be fair to Al, the post they made on FB didn't have any effort to explain either.  It was just a picture of the real car (as reposted here) with a mumble about bucket seats and "more information later, no waiting list".

In my experience, typical of an outfit that chooses facebook as the platform upon which to launch their business.

Plated tires?  I don't remember those!  ?

This thread needs to be moved to the Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed section.

Slapping the Jo-Han name on a resin kit doesn't magically elevate their enterprise above all the other resin and 3D producers listed in that section.

As far as I'm concerned, until this new Jo-han starts cutting steel tooling and producing some actual styrene products, it belongs further down in the forum.

Don't get me wrong, this looks like a much nicer product than their Dodge pickups, and more power to them selling these.  Just don't pretend they're something they're not.

It's called baby steps.  You can not in this day and age jump in and start cutting molds.  Full disclosure I have know Jack, one of the new owners of JoHan, 40 years. All 3 involved are good guys. I visited them recently and spent 2 days. They have a lot of ideas and things in the works. I must leave it to them to disclose when the time comes.  It will take a while....but in the end a benefit to the hobby.....I am sure of this.

Just because they do not have 30 injection kits in their catalog yet does not mean they are calling themselves something they are not. It's called start up. Thx

I understand That, Dave.

My critique, was based more on how they are doing things, rather than what they are doing. I have no doubts they are good people, and have Great Ideas. My beef basically boils down to,"Don't Want to be Seen as Untrustworthy Noobs, don't act like Noobs".

The Picture was fine. The Vagueness wasn't. As I said before, the Target Customer for their Business is old enough to Remember Johan kits, and even owns some. They need to show what is on offer, in order to open wallets. Non-specific testimonials, from Other Buyers of their products, probably isn't enough to move the needle. Yet. It will be in the future, I suspect.

I can appreciate that they are great guys, and that they are bringing out top quality resin kits, but IMHO that puts them in the same category as other aftermarket/resin producers, of which many are also good guys.

Again IMHO, until they produce plastic kits in sufficient numbers and price point that everyone can get one, they are still niche resin producers, and this thread should be in that topic (for now).

That said, I wish them all the best, and look forward to seeing them grow the brand to the point that they bring out cool plastic kits that I can afford.

Didn't stop Moebius, Salvinos JR, Belkits, DModel Kits, Beemax/NuNu...

You just need cash...and not to throw a lot of shade, but if they don't have the cash to support making actual models, I don't see how this is much more than a highly polished version of Oakey's JoHan.  Their merch line is 10x larger than their product line.

I can speak to a few of these.

1. Moebius.  They did not just up and start a model company. Mr Winspur and family had a very successful biz for MANY years before Moeibus came to life. Lots of capital on hand and experience with manufacturing, dist and retailing. That' what Mr Winspur told me when I  worked for him.

BTW Mr Winspur and family are back in the kit biz now.

2. Salvinos. Again, very much the same thing. Years in the hobby biz, capital behind them and lots of experience in manufacturing, dist and retail. Add a connection to a company that does injection molding...says it all.

I have NO first hand info on the other model companies. I bet none of them started 100% from scratch with zero capital backing them. I'll not pretend I do know how they got into the kit biz.

Stay calm, don't assume and se what happens. If you do not like what the new JoHan does.....don't buy.

Games Workshop, the company that owns and produces the lucrative Warhammer 40k tabletop gaming brand, contacted me through a regional sales representative to determine if I would be interested in becoming a retailer of their products. Within a week of their initial phone call, I had product samples, line cards, advertising materials, sales guides, sales metrics, and wholesale ordering catalogs including footprints for self-seller floor racks. They went out of their way to make the case that having their products in my store would be mutually beneficial in a prompt, thorough, and transparent manner.

I bring this up because to date the only model car kit company that has gone to anywhere near these same lengths to demonstrate that they WANT to be on my shelf and that they value what retailers bring to the table - oddly enough - is Chinese racing car specialists NuNu who routinely private message me about upcoming products, thank me for sharing their social media material, and unfailingly have sent me a NuNu countertop calendar for the past now three years.

I accept that most model car kit companies are not nearly as engaged with modern sales and media practices as gaming companies, or railroading companies (Rapido for instance), or Bandai, but there has to be an absolutely BARE expectation that a company that is trying to sell a product - particularly a product that ideally they want other people to sell alongside of on their own shelf - is capable of clearly communicating What That Product Is.

I would have loved to get either the Pickup kit or the 66 Fury Convertible, but I don't palmplant, my face or any other

of those sites, So...........How does someone like me find out about them until after they have soldout??????

Atomic city had 66 Fury in stock last week....may have changed. Check with them is you are looking for either. thx

1.  Where, if you don't do FB?  There's no Johan website - it's 2024 for Christ's sake, and you can set up a website for peanuts.

2.  Searching for "Atomic City models" brings up a site on SciFi models - did they not check if the name was already in use (and if not,why not?).  Posts on that site suggest money being taken and kits never produced, so the name association is very unfortunate if they're unrelated.  Brand identity is really confused here.  ?

3.  Further to the other posts, if they're only producing short run resin kits *and* only marketing them on Facebook (!) they certainly belong in the "aftermarket" category and not the "manufacturer" one.  If the name were something other than "Jo-Han", what would you think then?   I'm sure they are great guys and I wish them well, but they definitely need some help with marketing and branding.

I do not have a account on Facebook. Yet if you do an internet search for 'Atomic City ohio' a FB page comes up, accessible by anyone account or not, with ALL contact info. A phone call or email will get you answers to your questions. VERY EZ if you are on the net. Thx

Ooof!

I don't think I paid that much for my Johan original!

There may be a market for this kit at this price.  I recently sold three original JoHan kits on the auction site, and the least expensive one was the '69 SC/Rambler, which was a sealed kit. It sold for $99.00. An original open box '71 Olds Toronado kit sold for $129.00, and an original flat box '64 Rambler hardtop kit with a few minor issues sold for $132.48. If this new company can sell enough, then maybe their future products could be presented at a less expensive cost.

I have paid more than $135 for a kit, but only a couple of times.  None were Jo-Han.

As for the SC/Rambler, in the early days of eBay I scored a carton of twelve of the Pro Street issue, sealed, delivered to my door, for right around $40.  For the carton, not per kit.  Sold three of them right off the bat to make the other nine free, later sold a couple more to pay for a couple of very early (wire axles) SC kits I turned up.  The SC was one of the last items produced by SeVille/Jo-Han.  If those are getting up there in price, then people are finally coming to the conclusion that the original stuff ain't coming back...
