I just finished this one after only three weeks on my bench , it's built mostly right out of the box with just a couple changes .

The first change was to cut down the front and rear springs to lower the ride height 1/8th inch all around , this is  probably not the preferred way but it was the simplest and caused no problems with the rest of the build . While working on the front I also modified it to have poseable steering . Then I swapped the front tires with some from The Parts Box which have a smaller diameter , not much but enough to add more rake to the finished model . I also removed the front license plate from the headlight crossbar , to me it cluttered things and just looks better without the plate .  I also opened the exhaust and printed a rear license plate . To finish it off I printed a surf board decal to match the box art .

The fenders and frame were molded in a Crimson Red plastic that was polished and I printed decals for the wood grain panels then sprayed the body inside and out with Tamiya TS-13 Clear .

This is probably the easiest kit I've built in a long time , it was a pleasure to build and went together exactly like it should with no issues at all .

Great looking Woody wagon there Bob, I'll be getting some ideas from your build for when I build mine. Extremely clean build and very 60s correct, well done.

Cheers,

David. ??

Dead solid perfect. Everything about it sings... and it sounds like Jan and Dean.

Two questions: when you cut/dropped the spring, how did you do it, this would be very helpful for the other A's!

Second question: did you say the tires and wheels came from the parts box, or just tires?

Now that is TASTY! Way cool.

I looked through the pics before I read the post, and I wouldn't have believed that the finish is the polished kit plastic, not paint.

Beautiful looking wood finishes along with the body paint. The interior detailing along with the chassis all look great as well.

Thanks DJ !  I don't usually go with polished plastic except with these early Monogram kits , it just looks right .

The front tires came from The Parts Box only because they are slightly smaller diameter , the rest are from the kit . Here's a couple of photos showing the cut down springs.

This has to be one of the most beautiful builds I've ever seen of this Monogram Classic: Everything about it just looks "right".

Makes me wish that Revell would reissue the "Blue Beetle"/"Blue Bandito" version of the Monogram '29 Roadster Pickup, once again enabling us to "clone" the early issue '30 Woodie (and Hot Rod the stock Monogram '30 Coupé).
