It's been a rough year, first I lost my dad and now her.  This was Dippy.  I've had her since college.  She spent her first few months living in my bathroom after my step-mom got her.  She used to curl up in my pants while I was in there.  She ended up finding out my room was off limits and spent most of her time with me so she wouldn't be bothered.  Ever since she has been my constant companion.  When I moved out she came with me and rarely left my side.  Last year she got diagnosed with feline diabetes.  Saturday she slipped into a coma and I had to put her down this morning.  I'm barely keeping it together.  She was the best pet I ever had.  I'm really gonna miss her.

I think you gave her the best life possible. As always having a cat in my life since I was 3, I have had many.

You did well.........

I’m sorry for your loss. A good pet is like family. Take solace in knowing you gave her a good life.

My condolences for the loss of little Dippy. The bond with a pet like this something special and she will always be in the back of your mind.

Sorry to hear of your loss......   Pets are (a lot of the time) easier to be close with than a lot of people.  Just remember all the good times!!!!

Dam,sorry for your loss.I know exactly how you feel.My ex gf and I had four cats. Two parents, one baby, and a stray.Who ever said that cats suck, and don’t have personalities, has no idea what they’re talking about. All of them were a riot. But my first one,a sweet Calico hit me the hardest. She was my first cat.She was about 20 when i had to put her down due to cancer.Omg,not gonna lie,I balled for days like a little girl.?She outlived her daughter, who also died of cancer.I have her ashes.I buried the father and baby. And idk whatever happened to the stray,my ex took him.RIP.I swore after losing Rory, the Calico, that I would never get another pet.Way to hard to deal with when they die.Again, sorry for your loss.

So sorry for your loss, Eric. I feel your pain. The love our pets show us is without measure. I had a cat, a brown tabby Maine Coon Cat, named TC, that curled up and slept between my knees every night. She would also jump into my lap when I was at my desk and try to sit on my shoulder. When I was watching sports on my old rear projection TV, she would choose a spot in the banner that scrolled along the bottom of the screen, chase it across the screen until it disappeared, stop and look at me like "where did it go?", then run back to the left side of the TV and do it again. She went out to hunt every morning and didn't come home one day. We assume a coyote got her. She's been gone a little over 11 years and I still miss her terribly...

Always tough losing a pet, especially one you get close to.

It's always amazed me how animals express emotion. It's real, not wishful anthropomorphizing.

I even get kinda choked up when one of the wild feral cats gets squashed by someone too careless or too much in a hurry.

AMEN to that ! I still recall how Oliver hugged Molly when I had to take her to be put to sleep (great... now I'm crying).

Animals are much more attuned to life and energies than we bipeds realise - animals' minds are clear, unburdened by the trivialities of this world.

I lost Lucy about 4 years ago after a several month long battle with intestinal cancer.

She was my baby and followed me wherever I went.

when she passed, we had her cremated and her ashes sit on a table in a window where it can absorb the sunlight all day, every day. (One of her favorite pastimes)

Now my Marcy has taken the baton and picks up where Lucy left off.

It might sound a little bizarre, but even after 4 years, I still put my hand on the box holding Lucy’s ashes every night on my way to bed and whisper “good night. I love you”.

It’s my way of making absolutely sure that I think about her every day and never forget our time together.

Lucy.

I'm sorry for your loss I know it's a very sad time. A couple months ago our cat, Buddy, died from kidney failure. He was just about one month away from his 19th birthday. He was a great cat, friendly with everybody and with the other cats and dogs we had during his life.

This is one of about 5 kitty's that hang out behind my house and in the alley. Caught this one my garage roof letting me know it's time to clean the gutters....LOL. I have named them all and leave water and food for them under my back steps. Oh, this one is called Phoebe 2.0 (looks like a co-workers cat).

This was one that needed to be re-homed so we took her in at age 4. She was my late wife's BFF. They were inseparable.

I was recovering from heart surgery in 2016, her and our little cat who was 5 months old were by my side all day, every day. They make good nurses.

So I was devastated when she had mandibular cancer. We all were. The cat and my girlfriend had a special bond too.

100% true. Our feline superiors sense our malaise / illnesses , and they act accordingly. Oliver Sabastian (2004-2020) slept with me when I had my appendix removed (January 2020), leaving only to eat , drink, and fulfill the Almond Rocher factory orders.

Tao , who's definitely not a lap cat by any means , cuddled with me when I had the flu three times in 2022 ! He otherwise sleeps by the foot of my bed , but he knew I was ill and cold, so he snuggled up right next to me.
