I pulled a kit off the shelf of doom that has been boxed for several years and the chrome has turned yellow. Anything I can do with this or do I need to replace the chrome?

Those wheels are from some other kit, they're only being used to show the deterioration of the other parts.

Can't say I remember having any kit chrome do that but I have had some replated by Chrome+ years ago do it.

Same here. He must have been using some sort of clear that yellowed over time, they looked perfect when first done but over the years they've yellowed some, especially in recessed areas where the clear is thicker. This was a second order, the first order never yellowed.

Yes, the yellowing id due to a clear protective coating applied over the metalization. This was sometimes done  by some model companies.

Humm, I wonder if putting it in the sun like you would do with yellowed decals would do anything?

Probably not but nothing to loose at this point.

This is an after thought, but I had a club member (with an extensive collection) claim that storing kits near or touching an outside wall in the basement (yes it was heated) did strange things to kit chrome. I have since left an air space or puts kits without chrome near walls.
