ModelcarJR Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 This is the Revell kit that I converted from the 007 kit to a performance Mustang Mach 1. Someone mentioned that it may be issued by Revell but I can't find it and I don't think it is out yet. So, in order to convert this kit I had to do the following: 1. Found a rear spoiler and keystone wheels (oustside only) in the parts box. 2. Drilled holes in the hood for the hood locks and found the hood locks on the 007 kit chrome tree (extra parts) 3. Cut a front air damn using the curvature of the extra front bumper (it fits the underside roll pan perfectly) as a template on sheet plastic. 4. Used the silver side stripes from the Revell Boss 351 kit that I didn't use before and pinstripe and Mach 1 decals from the AMT 71 Mach 1 decal sheet that were unused. From there it was just a matter of paint, construction, and decal application. The exterior paint is Dupli-Color Bahama Blue Metallic and the silver is Tamiya Gloss Aluminum. The interior is Tamiya Gunmetal to resemble a more modern interior style, highlighted with black, silver, and a wood color. The 429 engine has added plug wires with boots and looms, a fuel line from the carb to the fuel pump, and heater hoses. Goodyear tire decals are from Fireball Modelworks. Everything went together well with the exception of the wheels. The wheelbacks tuck inside the tires, but kept slipping out because the keystone front covers do not slip inside. I had to glue the wheelbacks to the tire in a couple of instances. It would have been nice to have a set of wheels that are included in the Boss 351 kit. But mission accomplished! A performance 1971 Mustang Mach 1! Thanks for looking! ? I have also included a photo of 4 recently completed 1971 Mustangs and a 1970 as well that have been built in the last 6 months. From right to left: Revell Mustang Boss 351, Revell 007 kit that was converted here to the performance Mustang Mach 1 429, AMT 1971 Mustang Mach 1, AMT Mustang 007 Mach 1, and finally Revell 1970 Mustang Mach 1. 17 1
