I don't know if anyone else saw this on the internet recently, but apparently with the success of Top Gun Maverick Tom Cruise is looking into making an update to the Days of Thunder.  I'm sure it is too early for any details, and sounds like it is more in the "Lets take a look at this idea" stage right now.  With Salvinos JR producing the new NASCAR models, maybe they can get a tie in if the movie does get made.

DoT was the worst racing movie ever made, IMO.

I don't know if it's the worst racing movie ever made, but it's right up the with the worst. A high banked Phoenix Raceway from the in-car view? I have no idea who the technical advisor was on that movie, but they failed miserably.

I still find it to be an entertaining movie, though.

DoT was not accurate, but then...the film makers weren't going for accuracy. They were going for something that looked and felt exciting.

Mission accomplished.

Yeah, it's a dumb movie, but it's fun to watch. Even if it's the exact same story as Top Gun, just with cars instead of planes.

I'd watch a sequel. Although for the life of me I can't figure out how there's any kind of a story to expand upon. Unless they just copy Maverick.

It will probably follow the current formula of old head (tom cruise) "mentoring" some hard luck rebel punk to be the next champion much in the same way most current sequels do. Might be an entertaining movie from an action point of view but a paper thin plot like everything else. Just my guess

Greg Sacks, it seems...

He was stunt driving for Tom Cruise as well, so it's not like he was only involved in development...

best,

Greg Sacks was a local modified driver when I was racing. I'd see him in the pits every weekend, we often ran 2 nights a week on the Island.

Given his WC career, he may have made more money chasing big modified races. He took over the Wilsberg #5 after Charlie Jarzombek got killed in 1987.

Hard pass. I'll just keep rewatching "The Last American Hero" with Jeff B.

I have to look for that on Blue Ray.

Another great racing movie is Grand Prix from 1966 with James Garner. I catch it on demand via TCM. There are a few real drivers that did cameo spots in the film.

Garner was one of the very few that did his actual driving footage.

Unless it's one of the fast and furious movies. Then you an 18 speed . And a 4 mile quarter mile.

I think audience expectations are more sophisticated now than they were in 1990. I don't think Cruise & Co. can afford to do a schmaltzy sequel. For that reason, like Maverick, I expect it to transcend the bubble gum crowd and strive for a stronger measure of authenticity along with character and story development (of course, along with some eye-rolling plausibles).

For some reason I just keep having a bad feeling about the upcoming "F1" movie. I hope I'm wrong but as a big fan of F1 I'm going to need it to be very good.

I have a copy of that movie....... It was mostly made up as they went! They didn't really have a script to follow. I liked it, but I'm a fan of most of the actors in it.........

I cant agree more. I must say if its in line with Ford vs Ferrari i am satisfied! Seems like Cruise has no role in this one so i might gotten that wrong.
