That one had more in common with the Austin Powers movies, in that the sum of its parts is greater than the whole. Good for a laugh scene by scene. 2

Wasn't Days O' Thunder filmed partially during an actual race? I think that they had to stay way back from the cars that were racing. It's more of a parody, a spoof. It was in no way trying to be accurate. They just went for pure goofball comedy and happened to base it around race cars. It's a racing movie in the same way that Austin Powers is an accurate rendition of 1960s London. Or how Spies Like Us accurately depicts how you become a spy. Actually, that was an awesome movie. I should watch that today.
TarheelRick
Will Nicole Kidman be his main squeeze? I really liked her in DoT.

I'm told it's good. I'm sure I'll see it someday, but I'm in no hurry.

A high banked Phoenix Raceway from the in-car view? I have no idea who the technical advisor was on that movie, but they failed miserably. I still find it to be an entertaining movie, though. Dale Earnhardt, was an advisor. I agree with Ton Driven was the worst racing movie. I saw Days of Thunder in the theater and I liked it. Movies are better at the theater most of the time . Greatest American Hero comes on free on Tubi and that’s free".
papajohn97
The only memory I have of DoT is Nicole Kidman. She was at her absolute peak of babe-ness IIRC….and the only redeeming aspect of that really stupid movie. Most racing movies are bad. Grand Prix and Le Mans had mediocre to terrible scripts but made up for it with amazing racing footage. Ford v Ferrari was better but no where near as good as the Blaine book it was based on (“Go Like Hell”). Ferrari bombed but I thought it actually pretty well done script/ acting/ editing/ directing and accuracy-wise. I’d love to see Hollywood make a movie based on IMO the best racing book of all-time “Black Noon” about the tragic ‘64 Indy race but it would probably not appeal to audiences not interested in racing history. PS- oops! Totally forgot Rush. I thought it was so-so but I have a personal fetish for 70’s F1 cars so it’s one of my favorites because of all of the tall air boxes! oldcarfan
I suppose the Tom Cruise angle might bring in viewers but I'm not sure NASCAR is still a big draw. At least for me, I sort of gave up on that around 2010.
Brian Austin
Was there an earlier Niki Lauda film? I have a foggy memory of a magazine write-up of the filming of a crash scene using a mockup pulled along by a cable. This would have been a few decades ago. 1930fordpickup
The only sript they could use and afford to shoot would all be in the front offices of the teams. Unless they came up with 32 sponsors for 3 or 4 races to film with. Drivers will want to paid a truck load of money and so will the crew. The France family have a few good Scripts every year.

I believe the movie you are thinking of is called one by one. There's also the Netflix movie rush.

As the movie progressed, the cars changed in detail, mirroring rule changes over the race seasons.

Dave Van
Being involved in NASCAR from 1984 to 1999......I had hopes for the film. But DoT turned out to be the worst NASCAR based film. 'Last American Hero' was a great film. Talladega Nights' was a comedy and more accurate than DoT. So plez....no sequel for DoT. I did love the cars!!!
