Bugatti Fan Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 Bill mentioned earlier about drivers cutting in too close when overtaking. I was doing some motorway driving recently and got cut up a few times. But the ironic thing is that they had plenty of road space in front of my vehicle to pull back over safely? The other thing is, have many drivers forgotten that they have turn indicators on their cars? I can read the road reasonably well but clairvoyancy is not one of my driving skills ! 5

Amen to that! And particularly, they seem to have forgotten how you’re supposed to use them at roundabouts: I’ve learned from a few close calls that you can’t make any assumptions about what people are going to do at a roundabout from their use of indicators, or lack of it! best, M. 2

Roundabouts are becoming popular over here with "traffic engineers", and lotsa drivers seem to have no clue how to negotiate one. 1
Rob Hall Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 Got a bunch of roundabouts/traffic circles here in NE Ohio...when I lived in AZ I remember seeing a lot of them up in Sedona..like 1/2 dozen of them in a few miles on one road...
Bugatti Fan Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 Roundabouts. They are quite common place over here in the UK. Have been for years. After all this time you would have thought that drivers were used to using them properly by now. LOL.

Sounds like you share the same traffic engineers as upstate NY. Here's a screen shot of 5 within 3/4 or so of a mile.

Some of the locals here have taken it upon themselves to drive straight across the round abouts here. Most seem to be driving larger lifted 4x4 pickups or some sort of large SUVs.
peteski Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 Seems that more and more drivers are either purposefully ignoring traffic rules or are just oblivious to them (or both).

Study after study indicate that humans are not particularly good at "multitasking", contrary to popular opinion, so the intrusion of smartphones into the driving environment is likely the primary cause. Almost without fail, when I see somebody driving erratically or missing turn arrows or failing to yield etc., a look at the driver reveals his/her attention is focused down at something in the car and not what's going on around it. Yeah, I routinely see two or more cars in the intersection and then doing a left turn after the light turns red.😡 1
espo Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 With the lack of driving ability with the drivers around here, the only thing worse than a roundabout might be the diverging diamonds at freeway interchanges. 1 1
LennyB Posted November 27, 2024 Posted November 27, 2024 I’m in New York where the car in the roundabout has the right of way. Our neighboring state New Jersey is the opposite, the car entering has the right of way. You can imagine the accidents caused by out of state drivers in both locations. But my biggest peeve is drivers who ride your bumper on the highway. Had nothing but cars in front of me this afternoon for as far as the eye can see. What would you expect, it’s get away day due to the holiday. Yet I get a guy riding my bumper and trying to push me out of his way. I let him pass and he continued to do the same to the next car. By the time I got off the highway 20 miles later he was a few cars behind me. All of his pushing never got him anywhere 3
ksnow Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 Sunday afternoon I got a call from the neighbor that their brother-in-law was stuck in their silo, while feeding the cows. That's a call that will send chills down anyone's spine. Silo accidents can be horrific. Luckily, he was just stuck on top of some sileage in the chute and couldn't get out of the bottom. Took about an hour to clear the chute. Could have been much, much worse. 2

That’s just crazy… at least in Europe it’s only different countries that have different priorities at roundabouts (and you already have to process driving on the other side of the road, so you really do notice!) The worst of all is France, where IN SOME CIRCUMSTANCES cars joining the main road from a side road on the right have priority… best, M. 2

Falcon Ranchero Posted January 24 Author Posted January 24 Slippery roads. On Wednesday, driving back to the college in the afternoon, going along my merry way and what not. Light was red at an upcoming intersection, a truck was stopped already. I'm doing like 40km, because my vehicle fishtailed a bit heading up the road so I was takin' it easy. Step on the brakes and she just slides, no slowing down whatsoever. I'm about to rear-end the truck in front of me, but thankfully there was a parking lot on my right so I turned in there. Had I not I would've hit that truck. Also noticed while I was in that parking lot, a few moments before, some kids in a car had done the same thing, though at higher speeds because the car was up a snowbank, dangling the wheels. The sand trucks haven't been seen anywhere so I don't know what the holy halibut they're doing.
Ace-Garageguy Posted January 24 Posted January 24 OMG OMG OMG !!!!!!! TIK TOK ISN'T ON THE APP STORES !!!!!!!! But it's OK. There are alternatives. Only $50,000 for a phone with it already installed. Whew. That was close. https://www.ebay.com/itm/335781064516? 1

A modeler named mike Posted February 3 Posted February 3 (edited) My brother's health issues.. This is an on going daily scare for me and of course for him also. Dave's 71 and way over weight, 225 lbs. and boarder line Diabetic. He has COPD, His right carotid artery is completely blocked and the left one is at 15% blockage. He has a small cyst on one of his kidneys which we are told is not an important issue at the moment. Approximately two years ago he had his gallbladder removed because it was full of sludge. Since it's been removed he's been experiencing issues affiliated with that procedure such as abdominal pain and digestive related problems. He gets out of breath just taking a shower or walking more than 10 feet. He has a lump on his right breast area that's tender and is scheduled to have an ultra sound this week. Today he has a nuclear Induced stress test and so far they've tried four times to hit a vein without any luck. This is the second time we've gone through attempting this procedure with the same results of not being able to hit a vein. So I sit hear in the doctors office and wait for hopefully good news that the IV is in and the test can move forward but its not looking likely. They have him drinking water so he can be hydrated which is causing him to have to urinate frequently. To top things off the doctors office bathroom is out of order so until they're successful in hitting a vein he has to walk a decent distance to use the facilities down the hall. All I can think of sitting here is first loosing Mom and then Dad and now the possibility of my brother. This sucks, but it is what is is. We are all born and one day we will all die. Ace-Garageguy Posted February 4 Posted February 4 Not today but late Saturday PM while working on the DeLorean. Thought I might be needing to go to the ER, went home, crawled under the covers, and whatever it was went away on its own with a little extra rest over the last coupla days. Everything A-OK now. 5
