CAL Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 I saw this on MSN's home page. http://editorial.autos.msn.com/landingpage...4>1=22021 I hated the fact they came out with an SUV & now a sedan Yeah, I was just reading that myself. I am a Porsche purist... but what can you do. I still have a hard time beliving the SUV double their sales. However, this really wasn't the first four door car out of the Porsche factory.
horsepoweraddict Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 They are probably trying to appeal to people who need a family size car which makes sense. Most families need more room than a boxter or carrera can offer. They are probably gonna try and compete with mercedes now with the four door, trying to appeal to the high class folks who like to throw their money out the window.
Harry P. Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Obviously Porsche wants to be more than just a niche market brand. If the Cayenne doubled their sales, a 4-door sedan can't hurt. BTW... that's a very good looking sedan, imo.
Zoom Zoom Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 (edited) BTW... that's a very good looking sedan, imo. You may not have the same opinion of the back: Edited April 28, 2009 by Zoom Zoom
Foxer Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 (edited) The sad part is they felt it had to look like a 911 .. that just doesn't work. The roof had to be compromised considerably for people heads. yeah.,. the engine is in front Edited April 28, 2009 by Foxer
Harry P. Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 You may not have the same opinion of the back: They wanted to keep some "Porscheness", that's for sure... I dunno... as odd as it is to see a 4-door Porsche, I don't think it looks too bad. I think it's more the shock of seeing a 4-door Porsche for the first time rather than bad design. It looks a lot better, imo, than when Jaguar stretched the E-Type in order to make it a 2+2. Yeah, it's "different"... but not bad. Hey, at least they didn't put a Bangle butt on it! If "Styling Snafus" still existed, I'd have a crack at it, for sure!!!
george 53 Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 I like it. At least it STILL LOOKS like a Porsche. Looks like they just streched the cab area an puffed the back of the roof/backlight. Kinda like an extended cab Porsche! Wonder how it handles? How Much?
Aaronw Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 I may get banned for saying so, but it would make a better looking wagon. It is a little strange getting used to what is basically a 4 door 911 but its not a bad looking car.
Dingo Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 I'm not a Porsche lover except for the Cayene (I own one) but I think they've gone over the top with this one it looks positively aweful and that's all I can say. I can now say I own one even though I am on an Australian pension because I have just won it in a charity lottery, cost me $10 a tivcket bought only one. Dingo

Nick F40 Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Yeah this has been an idea for the mfor a while, I still don't like it but hey they want to do it. The Cayenne ain't bad but it just doesn't have the full Porsche esque. I'm with Chris, I might not be a FULL purist like him but I love them and hey what can we do. yeah they had some wierd four doors coming from them.
58 Impala Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 You can put one in my garage,I like it. Definitely not your average family sedan.
Joe Handley Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 (edited) I'm not suprised that the Cayenne sells well, I see them around here all the time, if it's priced right that 5 door should do really well for them too. You may not have the same opinion of the back: Actually, I've kinda dug sporty 5 door sedans like that ever since I had that Lebaron GTS........even though that one is way over what that little Chrysler was. B_rad88 Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 (edited) hey the porsche suv was insane it was built to compete with the bmw x5 and m.benz 430ml! and the twin turbo gemballa version is extreme! its top speed is 185mph! and the 4 door porsche looks sweet, did you see the 4 door lambo? the was pimpin' (and porsche has experimented with other 4 doors too, i have seen a 4door 928, a 944, a 911, and a one off RUF 4door! The 928 was a factory gag gift for Dr Porsche's b-day.
Guest promodmerc Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 I'm sorry but I think it is ugly! It makes me embarrased to admit my German ancestry.
Terry Jessee Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 That is a gorgeous car. Now if I can just figure out a way to convince my wife to let me have one..... Terry
Chuck Most Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Porsche owners are growing up, perhaps Porsche thought it was time to provide them with a "sensible adult" (by Porsche standards) car. Personally, if I had the cash, I'd pass and get one of those 4-door Aston Martins. And, to all who think the Porsche sedan is ugly... you should check out the Lambo 4-door. Yech! Looks like my grandma's Dust Buster!
nitrojunkie Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 I can handle this better than I handled the SUV but then they quit being Porsches when water started flowing through their veins. This is of course my personal opinion.

Looks like my grandma's Dust Buster! That Aston sedan is going to be goregous, I think. My favorite expensive luxury sedans are the Merc CLS and Maserati Quattroporte. My favorite current Porsches are the Boxster and Cayman, esp. in 'S' form.
