magicmustang Posted February 24 Posted February 24 (edited) Been wanting to do this for a while. Took the new AMT craftsman plus 1965 GTO HDTP and added a 389 GTO engine, chassis, rear drive train with exhaust, firewall and radiator from an MPC '67 GTO that was on the shelf of doom. Also added some Firestone red line tires from the parts box. Paint is Testors rattlecan gold lacquer with interior fabric tan and a coat of wet look clear. Acceptable? Mike 1017 Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Looks Great. I also have a can of Fabric Gray and Fabric Tan that still spray Mike 1 1
Mopar2 Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Very sweet clean build. The color combo goes great together. 1
Ragtop Man Posted February 25 Posted February 25 Perfect. Exactly what R2 was hoping you would do. Gold and the redline ** Supremes ** are a great call. 1
Ragtop Man Posted February 25 Posted February 25 FWIW, the best-ever scale 389 Tripower (that will look great in this kit) is in the JL / PL '64 GTO.

Only reason I mentioned is that sometimes PL Goats end up in Doomsville, when builders get an eyeful of the body. I know the desginer, and his math was spot on, but by the time the Peoples Revoultionary Hobby Design Collective #297 got done with it, you could have carved that body from a pine block and done better. 1
AMT68 Posted February 25 Posted February 25 Excellent eye catching build and the color looks great on that GTO. 1
Bills72sj Posted February 25 Posted February 25 Beautiful color. Do you have a link to the WIP? I would like to learn what it takes to get an engine in it. (I just can't do curbsides) 1
johnyrotten Posted February 25 Posted February 25 (edited) Very sharp looking gto. Great choice on the color. Edited February 25 by johnyrotten Spelling 1

Didn't do a WIP but the engine in the MPC '67 GTO is a near drop in and by using the chassis and rear drive train from the same '67 GTO donor kit it's a simple swap. 1 1

Hey, thanks for the tip. Went thru my engine spare parts box and found a PL tripower carb set. Only found one air cleaner though. Will keep looking for the other two. Will swap them when I find the others.

These kits usually end up under the tables at swaps in the "$10 each / 3 for $20" pile, making them great candidates for parting out. Also, the earlier the '66-67 GTO chassis that you can find, the better. Early blue plastic released do not have as much flashing and sink marks, with detail painting and a little work they look good for a shelf build.
rrb124@sbcglobal.net Posted February 25 Posted February 25 That GTO is killing it. Way to go. One of the best looking Muscle Cars ever made. Thanks for showing. 1
espo Posted February 26 Posted February 26 Great looking paint color and finish. Looks a lot like the "Tiger Gold" of the era. Wouldn't be a GTO without a set of Redlines. 1
satterwhite78 Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Working on my AMT 65 GTO. The Goat looks great especially with the engine, mine is more of the promo build. 1
