NOBLNG Posted June 9 Posted June 9 (edited) I’ve had a desire to build something based on this ever since I ran across the photo. I started with a second hand ‘vette I picked up at the flea market. I bought a new 1/32 Corvette too thinking that I might use the roof section. I know someone on here (Impalow I think) also was pursuing this idea. I started by narrowing it quite drastically,(too drastically😬) and then sectioned it by about 3/16”. Then I bobbed it by about 3/8” behind the rear window. I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t really know what I’m doing….just cutting and hacking in the direction I want to go.😳 This is where I ran into trouble because the body lines no longer line up.🙄 Abort,Abort!🤬 So off to the Flea market to pick up another five buck gem.🤪 Edited June 11 by NOBLNG 5
NOBLNG Posted June 9 Author Posted June 9 (edited) And what a gem it was!😳 I pretty much had to hack the interior out in pieces and then grind the glass away. This time I shortened it at the peak of the rear fender bulge so that the body lines would line up. Kinda gives it a Cheetah look I think.😎 Then enlarged the wheel well back to its former shape. I narrowed the roof so the rear window edges lined up and filled the resulting gap behind the doors, and chopped it slightly to get the roof slope to line up more or less. I took about a 1/4” out of the cowl and spread the A pillars to mate up with the doors again. Then added a chunk of Evergreen to each door and shaped them a bit. They may need more, but I’m going to let it sit for a bit while I ponder my next move. Thanks for looking. As always…all comments welcome.😎 Edited June 9 by NOBLNG 9
johnyrotten Posted June 9 Posted June 9 Going to pay attention to this one. Fantastic surgery so far. 👍👍 1
slusher Posted June 9 Posted June 9 Another great, build you have going. The inspiration picture is so cool.. 1
rattle can man Posted June 10 Posted June 10 That drawing is definitely an improvement on my least favorite generation of Vette. Can't wait to see it Under Glass! 1
chris chabre Posted June 10 Posted June 10 Ill be watching, I have a body set aside to do something similar 1
NOBLNG Posted June 11 Author Posted June 11 (edited) Thanks for all the compliments fellas. So I’m guessing this has a some potential after all? Glad I aborted my first attempt.😬 Today I did a little more shaping.🙂 Edited June 11 by NOBLNG 7
Mattilacken Posted June 11 Posted June 11 That’s some serious chopping going on! Nice to have fleemarkets where you can find such things! Great work! 1
Zippi Posted June 11 Posted June 11 What a project there Greg. The StingRod is going to look pretty kewl. 1
Ace-Garageguy Posted June 11 Posted June 11 Campesi's art and designs are so cool, and it's always great to see an old model recycled into something radical. What's not to love? 1
geemoney Posted June 12 Posted June 12 Love your progress and your attention to the renderings proportions! love the rendering love the 63-4 fender indentions move to the door W- motor!!!! but mostly that front frame section!!! 1
NOBLNG Posted June 12 Author Posted June 12 Due to my exhaustive research and diligent planning 🙄…. the 1/32 interior fits with very little modification. I had to do some grinding and I re-oriented the dash slightly. Much easier than starting from scratch.🙂 5
NOBLNG Posted Tuesday at 11:12 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 11:12 PM (edited) I haven’t been at the bench much lately, but I am still plugging away at this once in a while. I got a floor pan partially scratched. Cut out the rear wheel openings and re-shaped the body lines a bit. Still lots more bodywork to be done.🥵 Edited Tuesday at 11:13 PM by NOBLNG 4
Spex84 Posted Thursday at 03:58 AM Posted Thursday at 03:58 AM This is flowing so well! Man that's a lot of chopping...one of the choices that surprised me was how you pinched the tail across the middle of the rear wheel arches, but it looks great that way. 1
Straightliner59 Posted Thursday at 07:15 AM Posted Thursday at 07:15 AM Glad you're sticking with the "W" Head! Looks way cool! 1
Potaka Posted Thursday at 07:40 AM Posted Thursday at 07:40 AM Really impressive work on the ’63 Corvette! The chop and section look super clean, and the bobbed rear gives it such a sleek, custom vibe. Love the attention to detail on the body lines and the paint finish. How did you decide on the height for the chop? Would love to see more progress photos if you have any! 1

Yeah, my first attempt had too much of a wedge shape. I wanted a bit more of an elongated diamond shape. Thanks Chris. 12 hours ago, Straightliner59 said: Glad you're sticking with the "W" Head! I am trying to get the body lines right and everything smoothed out before any painting. For the chop, I just kept cutting slivers off the C pillar until the roof and rear deck curves seemed to line up. I have a bunch of pics, but nothing that really shows anything extra. i will certainly post some more after the first round of putty.
