Another post from Sven's World of Wheels confirming the stock Comet.

"Here is the artwork I created for the upcoming all new Moebius 1964 K-Code Mercury Comet. This version will be stock and have an accurate stock K-Code dual 4-barrel 289 engine and full detail chassis. No release date yet, but tooling is finished and production is being scheduled."

Nice!  I never realized that the scooped hood was available on the regular Comet, but admittedly my knowledge of these cars is not extensive.

Will definitely be getting this one!

Excellent artwork, but if you'll allow me to get a little nit-picky here, the "K code" engine in a '64 Comet was not the HiPo 289 that people associate with Fairlanes and Mustangs, but rather a more normal 210 HP four barrel 289. Mercury used different code system from Ford, which has lead to a lot of confusion over the years.

I was wondering when someone was going to point this out 🙂

Not sure that hood was available on anything but the FX package cars.  Hopefully the scoops are add-ons, or the scoopless hood is in there too.

Yes, this is what I was wondering.  Hope it has a flat hood in the box.  Either way, I’ll get one, though.

The scoops will not be add-ons.

On the '65 Merc, the 'Nostrils' in the hood are molded open, and it is all one piece. I expect that the '64 hood will be similar.

I once dismantled a 1964 Mercury Comet station-wagon with engine K-code on the data plate; it was a regular 260 2v.  I still have its heads.

The only nit I have to pick with the ‘65 Comet is the same raised drag race front suspension lower control arms molded in to the chassis on all the versions. I’m hoping the ‘64 won’t share the same chassis and feature the appropriate height suspension parts for the various versions.

Are you sure that 260 was the original engine?

I didn't find that information out for years after I had bought my K-Code Comet. I kept trying to figure out why someone would have ordered a 271-horse 289 with a 3-speed column-shift and a 3.25:1 open axle!
