espo Posted July 30 Posted July 30 AMT 39/40 Ford Sedan kit built as a '40 De Luxe Sedan. The body trim moldings were so faint they are unusable. Used 1 mm half-round for the side moldings. The bumpers are snugged too the body and added a rear license plate mount from another bumper to the rear. Paint is Tamiya TS68 Wooden Deck Tan with Model Master Ultra Gloss Clear. The wheels are painted with Testors Bronze. The kits front wheels are used with smaller diameter and wider tires from the stash. The rear wheels are from the AMT '49 Ford coupe and larger diameter tires that are also wider. Used the kits hub caps and beauty rings. Spare parts dropped front axle has the spring trimmed and the cross member notched to lower the front end. Used the kits rear suspension and also trimmed the spring and notched the cross member to lower the rear. Drilled the frame for the fabricated exhaust to pass thru and a left-over muffler cut in half with added in-let and out-lets with exhaust tips exiting in front of the rear tires. The kits basic Flathead engine is painted Testors Bronze as well as the parts box Edelbrock Heads. The intake manifold and two-twos from the spare parts and added a mount for the generator. Red fishline for the fuel lines and some black left-over plug wires added. The kits radiator hoses are cut down and chromed with short lengths of rubber radiator hoses at either end. Interior is painted Wooden Deck Tan and Flat Clear with Tamiya Brown Accent color on the seat and door trim. The dash and window moldings are painted Bronze, the kits Tach and 3 pod gauges are pinned to the dash. The inspiration for this build is from a '40 Ford I was unable to afford long ago when it was very affordable at the time. 22 1

I got the molding idea from some else here on the Forum so it's not trade marked at all. Have done this on others in the past and you can change what trim line a model represents in doing so. Nice idea too with the exhaust pipes.👍 Thanks Andy. I tried to get close to the OEM colors as I remembered them on the inspiration car. The side exhaust was sort of a style at the time. The exhaust would cloud the finish on the rear chrome wheels though, just like it would rear bumpers. 1

Dennis Lacy Posted August 2 Posted August 2 Tan is one of my favorite colors on a 40 Ford, especially on one with a traditional look with steelies and a Flathead like this one. The bronze is a good accent color, too! Just a great looking car. Nice work! 1

The '40 Ford that I wanted so long ago was about this color as I recall and all the others seemed to be either gray or maroon and of course black.
