yellowsportwagon Posted September 23 Posted September 23 This things been laying half done for at least 3 years. I decided to finish it this weekend. Was a craftsman kit rebuilder. Couldn’t get the old paint off no matter what I tried. So I sanded it as best as I could and painted over it. Lowered it and put some 3D scale parts wheels and tires on it. Custom mixed two shades of copper for it sprayed a coat of crushed glass over that then cleared it. 23
Ace-Garageguy Posted September 23 Posted September 23 (edited) Very nice. Great color to show off the body sculpting, and the wire wheels work well with the overall style. This has recently become one of my all time favorite American cars, 'cause it looked like an over-the-top full custom just the way it was delivered. I well remember the late 1960s and early '70 sports car snobs disparaging the "tortured sheetmetal" of US car styling a decade earlier (me among them), but looking back, I think they (we) missed the point entirely. Quiet Eric Posted September 23 Posted September 23 Gorgeous, and don't see a lot of those built. I agree, one of my favorite of the late '50's/early '60's GM land barges.
Kah puts Posted September 23 Posted September 23 Oh my! This has great presence and the wheel and tire combination along with the stance is perfect, the foil work looks flawless, thanks for sharing 👍
Geno Posted September 23 Posted September 23 Man, I love the 59/60 Buicks. I've got a '60 in my stash to get to one day. You rocked it with this one.💯

Falcon Ranchero Posted September 23 Posted September 23 Looks very awesome, the colour and the wheels and the stance are perfect. Definitely a kit on my list.
bamadon Posted September 23 Posted September 23 I really like what you did with this '59. The color and the wheels look good. I'm very partial to 59 Buicks because I learned to drive in one, a black Electra that belonged to my grandparents. You haven't lived until you have washed and waxed one of those land yachts.
Cosmic D Posted September 23 Posted September 23 The wheels are a perfect match for this car - its great that you saved it.
espo Posted September 23 Posted September 23 Beautiful paint color and finish. The Buicks seemed to have a custom looking body from the factory. Clean chrome trim and the interior looks great. Like the wire wheels.
gks1964 Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Beautiful!! Color is great! Love the wheels and tires!
Jim N Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Great job Tim! I like the work you did a lot. The 1:1 must have been a behemoth.
Zippi Posted September 25 Posted September 25 Turned out pretty nice I'd say Tim. That color really pops in the sun.
1959 Posted Saturday at 07:48 AM Posted Saturday at 07:48 AM Wow, great looking build. The color choice is perfect and execution is really nice. I would really much like to have one of those AMT kits too. As some of you said that 59 Buick is one of the nicest 50's cars I have to agree. In the late 80s there was a blue Electra often on the yard of one house on the way to our summer cottage and I asked my dad to wake me up just before we pass it. Once we were looking at some cars that had just been imported to Finland from US and it was the first time I saw a 59 Impala coupe. But when I saw a 59 Buick front peeking under a plastic cover I decided that I got to have one when I grow up. So when I turned 40 I bought Invicta convertible. A very nice car but also quite complicated and definitely not the easiest one to service and repair and parts are not easy to find. Kimmo
Spex84 Posted Monday at 03:37 AM Posted Monday at 03:37 AM I've always loved these Buicks. Nice work on that paintjob, and the wire wheels really suit it well. Very clean and straight foil work too--that side spear would make me nervous! Count me among those who are waiting for a deal on one of these kits to magically appear....
