1953 Studebaker

Here's AMT's 1953 Studebaker. The wheels look cool, but they are totally incorrect. Give a shout out if you know what kit they are from.

Cool Stude! I like the patterned fabric on the seats.

And those wheels look like AMT '49 Mercury to me.

Never liked this car as a kid but I did as I became an adult. Great job on the engine, interior and exterior. Good looking model.

I actually liked this kit as a kid because the things I considered essential for detailing (separate exhaust and rear axle etc) weren't molded in, and the front wheels/tires were poseable.  Always seemed weird to me that AMT would put this kind of effort into cars like this and the '58 Impala, but skimp out on what I (in my infinite early teen wisdom) considered to be "better subjects for modeling".

Your build shows what this kit can offer someone who's into detailing, and your interior and red/white paint job provide instant eye candy.

Beautiful build i love that car it was so far ahead of it's time for a 50's design and the wheels look great the stock wheels were boring i am building one myself and i am going with custom wheels to.

Thanks, Monty. I build a lot of rally cars, all with a lot of decals. I find a car like the Studebaker more challenging because there is nowhere to hide. I found that detailing the emblems is still tricky for me. I tried painting instead of bare metal foil, using the pencil eraser method. But it's tough to get full coverage on the emblem that way. I may go back and touch them up. Thanks for you comments - I too remember those AMT kits being 72. The Impala was another good one, you're right about that.

Agree on the wheels. I tried to use some Tamiya clear red on the rim of the stock wheel but it didn't look right. So I went with the totally out of spec wheels from the AMT 49 Mercury. If I owned the real car, I might have done the same thing!

Very nice model car  build.

Those 50's Studes body styles were way ahead of their time and dare I say it, looked more European.

And of course, in later years their Avanti styling was something to behold !
