TimKustom Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 Built this for Cranky’s Christmas Contest on another board. Waited until after the “judging†was complete before posting anything about this. Despite not placing, this was one of the most fun models I’ve built. One of my favorites as well, especially since it went from “opening the box†to completed model in less than 60 days. AMT 1953 Corvette “Skinny Dipper.†The modifications are fairly obvious... Engine is from the Galaxy ‘48 Chevy with the head converted to a 12-port cross flow design. Interior is all stock, just missing a seat. Chassis has Revell ‘59 Caddie rear suspension, front suspension is from the ‘Lil Coffin show rod. Trunk lid opens to show a battery and a fuel fill. I think it almost looked better “in pieces.†The in-progress shots are at the link. http://public.fotki.com/timkustom/model_car_stuff/crankys-kustom-build/ Hope y’all enjoy! TK 1
Chuck Most Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 Not a big fan of 'Vettes myself, but I love this one! Can't say I've ever seen anything even remotely like that done to an early 'Vette!
Janne Herajärvi Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 WOW! Now that is coolest Corvette custom what ive ever seen in scale. It would be very cool in 1:1 too
Randy Kern Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 Wild, weird, wacky, and way cool! Fantastic detailing too, Tim. Will it be at the NNL East?
vizio93 Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 That thang looks pretty cool Tim !!! Never would have thought I'd see a vette like that
seeker589 Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 And it DIDN'T even place?!?!? You got ripped off! I really like that! Good use of imagination! And execution!
Jeff Sauber Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Not my cup of tea Kustom, but the craftsmanship is superb....How did it not place?....seems weird. I smell a fix!!.....LOL Seriously man, that's some nice building skills you have there....great pics as well.
Jon Cole Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 WoW! That is loaded with imagination! I'm thinkin' "magazine feature"!
Matt P Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Great concept & great execution. The marriage of hotrods and Corvettes done brilliantly.
Sixties Sam Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 That's crazy and cool! It has a bit of 1960's Indy racer flavor mixed in with the hot rod and 'Vette elements. Nice job! Sam
Mercman Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Tim being up against you in the contest, and watching this one come to be was great. I too don't real care for Corvette's, except the 63, 65 StingRay's, I got to admit this one I like. You did a great job. Like you I also didn't place but then I didn't think I would. It was some tuff competition we were up against.
Guest Gramps-xrds Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Can't say I've ever seen anything like it. Never did like that kit, but what you did to it does have some appeal.
Smart-Resins Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I have to say, not much into the 50's vettes, or roadsters with open wheels. But.... This is one excellent build! Came together nicely. I like the way the body lines still flowed smoothly after the hack job. The engine is well detailed and the finned rotors add great class! The interior and trunk are super additions and again flow nicely. So even though ita a subject matter I dont like, I still would have to give you two thumbs up on this one! Jody
Zoom Zoom Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 That's just krazy kool what you did w/the 'vette Might even be my all-time favorite TK model Can't wait to see it in Anniston. I wanna do something like this with a Miata :D
Raul_Perez Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Wild, weird, wacky, and way cool! Fantastic detailing too, Tim... I've got to agree with Randy on this one!! It is just way too cool!! Thanks for sharing,
Jantrix Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Sorry you didn't place. I guess it just wasn't "rat" enough for Ken. Fantastic work though. I really love it. I may break out my T-bird again, but I doubt it. It's "been done" now and done wonderfully. I'll move on to something else.
