curt raitz Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 (edited) Here we go... couldn't pass up the oppurtunity to build a hovercraft to accompany the two Raul Perez has built based on the movie "The Fifth Element" I picked up an old AMT '63 Corvette Roadster kit awhile back...had already been started, wheel wells were radiused and the kit was in a bad way. Perfect specimen for a hovercraft. At our last club meeting Steve Alamand let me check out the "Beatnik Bandit". The bubble top and interior from the "Beatnik Bandit" would work quite well in the corvette So, picked up the "Beatnik Bandit" at the LHS and started filling in holes, assorted parts, bottom plate, etc. this is what I've got so far: Gotta lot of work left on this puppy...powerplant, plumbing, etc thanx for lookin' Edited October 22, 2010 by curt raitz
davyou5 Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 This is going to get interesting , I am watching this build .
Foxer Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 heheh .. you got me humming the song ... I think it's gonna look good! .. little red Corvette, dum de dum dum dum .......
Peter Lombardo Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Curt, pretty slick. You and Raul have a neat "thing" going with the hovercrafts. The bubbletop idea is sharp, I like how the Ed Roth pieces are being used here....well thoughtout. we're watching.
george 53 Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Oh yes we will!!! , does it have a Klystron Modulation Generator???
Raul_Perez Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Too cool, my old friend!! (Even if I HATE the song!!) I really like the stablizer fin, too!! These things are just too much fun to build!! Later,
MikeMc Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 I wonder who is gonna go faster and higher...?????? :P NOS?????
ale8oneboy Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Got my attention. A movie quote for this build... "..where we're going we don't need roads.."
Jantrix Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Umm..........this rather unique genre seems to be generating some interest. I've got one I'm kicking around myself. Any thought on a CBP?
curt raitz Posted October 26, 2010 Author Posted October 26, 2010 Been playin' with the two-part Bondo as a filler for this build, so far so good... here's what the thing is lookin' like before spraying the primer coat on: thanx for lookin'
Alyn Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 At first I wasn't diggin' that little flip up point on the tail fin, but now seeing it in the all-together, I like it alot. Good combo with the bubble. coo cooly cool, daddy-O
jbwelda Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 that bubble top looks like it belongs there! what a killer design!
Raul_Perez Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 That is just too cool!! This era of Corvette makes the perfect hover car!! The bubble top gives it that Jetsons look!! All you need now is a model of Astro to sit in the passenger's seat!! Later,

David G. Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 What you've done so far looks great. I love the added fin and thruster. Early Corvettes really lend themselves to this type of build, I chose a '57 gluebomb for mine. I hope to get some pics posted soon.
Misguided-1 Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 George Jetson would be jealous. That thing is beautiful.
vaughn Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 Outstanding !! Great concept..gonna look outa this world!!!
curt raitz Posted November 3, 2010 Author Posted November 3, 2010 Now that the World Series is over and after 56 years the San Francisco Giants are the World Series Champions again, I can get back to building models... Got into the parts box and thru together a twin turbine engine... fabricated and resin cast the exhaust thingys, gettin' ready to vacuum form the intakes... thanx for lookin'
Raul_Perez Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 The engine and all the goodies are looking really cool!! Did the elves have to work overtime to resin cast the exhaust? Later,
John Teresi Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 This is going to be totally cool........your work is EXCELLENT.
