Foxer Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 (edited) I just got a message from a friend in Arizona saying her pipes are frozen! It's 5 degrees there! She is in Bisbee, so must be 15 in Phoenix .. ehheh Edited February 3, 2011 by Foxer
David G. Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Actually, it's about 30 degrees right now. But that's still way colder than most of us are used to. David G.
Rob Hall Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Actually, it's about 30 degrees right now. But that's still way colder than most of us are used to. David G. Yes, about 30 here now...couldn't believe yesterday..only got in the 40s..sunny and windy.
Green Duster Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Global warming my butt. It's COLD and Snowing everywhere!
crazyjim Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 It's not snowing down here in west central FLA. Come on down!
David G. Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Global warming my butt. It's COLD and Snowing everywhere! "Global Warming" is misnamed. Though the general trend may be toward increasing average temps, there will be a wider swing between extremes. Harder, colder winters and hotter summers. Global Climatic Destabilization would be more accurate, but there would be people who would become confused and think that it's some type of terrorist group. David G.

Danno Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Colder than a ... witch or monkey care to think about. Well, anyway it's colder than most people can ever remember Arizona ever being! They even cancelled the first two days of the Phoenix Open events (including the Pro-Am) due to the cold and frozen golf course!!! First time ever. PGA says they don't remember having to postpone or cancel an event due to cold ... and it had to be Phoenix!! Jeeeeeez. What's this world coming to? I've had to break out my Broncos jacket, Avalanche ski cap, and Rockies snomobile driving gloves just to go out and tend to my frosty cacti. Somebody throw the switch and turn the furnace back on!
slantasaurus Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 .......And it's taken you guys in AZ how long to dig out ???.......Yeah, I thought so......kwityerbitchin........
Danno Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 .......And it's taken you guys in AZ how long to dig out ???.......Yeah, I thought so......kwityerbitchin........ None of that what you said. I've paid my dues shoveling snow and chopping ice ... more than you know. (I navigated the Rockies and the Continental Divide, highways and back roads, through more winters than I care to remember.) Just wanted to let y'all know it's not so good down here, either. We may not have snow to shovel or ice to deal with, but it's not the usual paradise here, either. Temperature swings from 120 degrees down to 29 degrees just ain't right! It got so cold, the frost killed my artificial turf.
samdiego Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 (edited) It's Bisbee. I don't think they've updated to tubes yet. They are a mile high. I know that area well as most of my family has been there for decades. That might be a low temp record for them. The crazy part (crazy and Bisbee kinda go together) is that they are all the way down on the border with Mexico. Can't be good for the cactuses Edited February 3, 2011 by samdiego
LDO Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 I've got frozen pipes just outside Austin, TX. First time that's happened to me since the '70s. I'm a plumber and there's nothing I can do. I just have to wait it out.
Foxer Posted February 3, 2011 Author Posted February 3, 2011 It's Bisbee. I don't think they've updated to tubes yet. They are a mile high. I should know better! I corrected my spelling.

The weather is definitely variable here..very dramatic range of temps and sudden shifts. I remember a lot of wild weather also when I lived in Colorado..40 inch snows, then 60 degrees a couple days later..

I'm in Chicago, sometimes we get 20+" of snow, I know that and I don't complain. It happens, but not that often. I lived in Florida for a year, people used to complain about how hot it was. I'd look at them sideways and say "you're in Florida in July, of course it F#@*n' hot !!!". I've never been to Arizona but people talk about the heat there, it's a desert, what did you expect. Wasn't it Mark Twain who said "Everyone complains about the weather but nobody does anything about it." That's my take, quit worring and complaing about things you can't change and focus on the stuff you can. I'll get off my soapbox now before I start going on about climate change. Just remember, don't ever take me too seriously, as Todd Snider says "I'm not trying to change anyones mind about anything, I'm just trying to ease my mind about everything"........ All of you seem to forget that the weather is a lot like traffic, there's NOTHING you can do about it! The sooner you accept that fact, the better off you'll be.

Unless you want to talk about Winwood, Capaldi, Mason, and Wood, then I love Traffic !!!!
Rob Hall Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Grumbling about the climate and the weather is just human nature. Seems everytime I talk to my Mom in Ohio that's the first thing we talk about. Everywhere I've lived in my life (E. Ohio, SE Michigan, the Florida Keys, Chicago, Colorado Springs, Denver, Phoenix) has had it's unique weather patterns, highs and lows, ups and downs. As will where I move next will have. That's just the way it is. As Buckaroo Banzai said, 'Wherever you go, there you are'.
Crazy Ed Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 I just got a message from a friend in Arizona saying her pipes are frozen! It's 5 degrees there! She is in Bisbee, so must be 15 in Phoenix .. ehheh Bisbee is where I go for Jury Duty. We hit 4f this Morning. Our water stopped flowing when the temp hit 11 just before midnight. No BBQ tonight and the skinny dippin' party is off Ed
Dragracer Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 It's 33 outside right now (2:00) in Tucson, was 18 at 7:30 this morning.
Rob Hall Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 It's 33 outside right now (2:00) in Tucson, was 18 at 7:30 this morning. Brr...was 40 when I did my Chipotle lunch run an hr ago here in Chandler.
Mark Brown Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 I've got frozen pipes just outside Austin, TX. First time that's happened to me since the '70s. I'm a plumber and there's nothing I can do. I just have to wait it out. No frozen pipes here in SW Austin (Oak Hill) unless you count all the frozen pipes inside me. I've had about enough of this for the next 25 years. ........don't get me started on Chicago traffic.........I could be a poster child for road rage. Unless you want to talk about Winwood, Capaldi, Mason, and Wood, then I love Traffic !!!! You just gotta add Reebop to that group!
Eric Stone Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Highs in the 30s and lows in the 20s in Houston, with snow/sleet/ice forecast just ain't right... I live south of Interstate 10 to avoid stuff like this. Nothing frozen here yet except a few plants outside.

The sooner you accept that fact, the better off you'll be. A big truck with a V-Plow should work nicely.......especially if you drive between the lanes like a motorcylce can
Modelmartin Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 It's 33 outside right now (2:00) in Tucson, was 18 at 7:30 this morning. We are supposed to get to 33 degrees tomorrow! Ain't that something!
