Chris C Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 (edited) G'Day again, Time for another one. Revell's 55 Chevy coupe, the usual lowering with Pegasus wheels & resin brakes. Otherwise built box stock (no wiring, too lazy....) Paint is a custom mix of Tamiya Racing white with a dash of orange. Flames are tamiya Red and Orange. Followed up with a light coat of pearl clear, then some not so light buckets of 2K clear. The interior is 3 tone tan in Tamiya acrylic. This car caused me considerable trauma... actually I shouldn't blame the car. Not an hour after it was finished, I accidentally knocked the hood off, only for it to be instantly snapped up in the waiting jaws of Dexter, my dog..... Result was one badly mangled hood! Luckily I had left over paint and was able to straighten & fill the hood & repaint it. It's a half shade out in colour and is now missing the chrome hood ornament, but I'm happy to have saved it! Needless to say, Dexter is not allowed near my models again! Anyway, enjoy! You can see the under repair hood in this shot! Edited February 13, 2011 by Chris C
David G. Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Well done! All in all, a very cool build. David G.
Foxer Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 I wouldn't call you lazy if you masked off those flames. It all looks great and nosed would be my way also, rather than doing a "Dexter search" for the ornament!
Peter Lombardo Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Great looking flames, very nice build....classy and smooth. I like it very much.
Greg Pugh Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Hands down one of the best flame jobs I've seen!! That car is gorgeous! I LOVE this car!! Awesome!
Dr. Cranky Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Saw this in the video . . . great work. You sure do have those flames jobs down!
High octane Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 While I'm not a big fan of large wheeels, your Chevy looks great and I love that flame job!
Kanedge Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 This one is still my favourite of yours, so far...
Bastardo Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Probably one of the sexiest 55s out there... That car is amazingly beautiful, the flames are great and, sorry, but I think your dog did you a favour - that hood looks great without that ornament on it Not a fan of oversized wheels neither, but this 55 just wouldn't be what i t is if it had some smaller rollers on it
TheCat Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Cool looking 55 Chevy... Love the flame job!!
Marc @ MPC Motorsports Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Very nice! Where do you get the flame templates?
Chris C Posted February 15, 2011 Author Posted February 15, 2011 Thanks guys, appreciated! Dex did force my hand on the hood ornament. I was actually intending to remove it, but my laziness told me "bugger it, too much filling, leave it on!" In the end I had to do a hell of a lot more filling! Marc, I make the masks myself, my email is in my profile if you want more info. There's also a how to video on the forum - Here Thanks again!
LAone Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 sweet looking 55. i like the all white and flames combo.
jeff ewaskey Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 55 Chevy is a sweet car when done right and your flame job really sets yours off. Looks sweeeeet!!!!!! I'm lovin it.
W117monte Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 wow this thing is BAD!!! excellent photography work too. Really a nice job.
Tedly Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Beautiful job. I had a 1:1 with the same paint job, but it was a sedan not a hard top, until someone hit me in the rear and pushed me into the car in front making me a "sandwich" I do still have it though. Hopefully one day I will resurect it!
Chris C Posted February 16, 2011 Author Posted February 16, 2011 Geez, Ted, that must've been heartbreaking!! Hope it can be resurrected!
pharr7226 Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Gorgeous build and nice photography. I really like the black background. Are there any tricks to using a black background for the photos.
carrucha Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Cool flamed street machine. Nice work on saving the hood. I like the stance and wheels.
