VW Dave Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 I'm presently wrapping up an unfinished AMT model T that I abandoned and packed away nearly 20 years ago, and the kit's velocity stacks were pretty boogered up....I wasn't sure what to use. While browsing Michaels' scrapbooking aisles with the missus, I spotted these über-cool 3/16" eyelets and knew what they'd be good for. They come in a pack of 100 for about $3(and I used a 40% off coupon on top of that ). I still need to touch up where I epoxied them on, but I think they look the part:
stewart Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Wow, what a tip. New these existed but never thought of using them for velocity stacks. STewart
John Pol Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 You can also get them from the dollar store thats where I got mine. You can use it for the ends of your exhaust system. John Pol
LAone Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 yeah, these are cool. i have the 1/8" eyelets but have yet to use them. look great.
David G. Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Just like they were made for it! Thanks for the tip. David G.
MikeMc Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 The stacks look great...then again I like your avatar!!
VW Dave Posted March 15, 2011 Author Posted March 15, 2011 Thanks for the kind words, all. I'm not sure if it's totally feasible, but those eyelets might also make decent Buick-esque portholes on a leadsled.
Modlbldr Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 (edited) I bought some of those a while ago to use as custom rings on the rear valance panel for the exhaust pipes to exit through. Still haven't done it yet, but should look real nice. Your velocity stacks look real nice too. Later- Edited March 15, 2011 by Modlbldr
Bridgebuster Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Great tip bro. Is there a story behind the avatar (no pun intended)?
Danno Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I saw those, too. Picked up a package, but had not gotten around to using them for anything yet. Your pix show a great use for them! Good show.
Dr. Cranky Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Sweet and perfect! Thanks for scouting the idea.
VW Dave Posted March 17, 2011 Author Posted March 17, 2011 Great tip bro. Is there a story behind the avatar (no pun intended)? Thanks for the kudos; I'm glad to have a place to share oddball stuff like this. As far as the avatar goes, it was photographed while on vaca @ Disney World last month.....IMO the best name in toilet paper.

Steven Zimmerman Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I've been using these-AND telling people about them -for 10 years.....glad to see somebody using them!

ericfreeman Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 I saw those at Michaels and was curious about how they would look. Thanks for the pictures, it turned out great! I guess the best way to make somrthing look like metal is to start with metal.
Greg Myers Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 I think they look the part too, great tip, thanks
paul alflen Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I CHECKED MY MICHAELS STORE AND THEY DIDN'T HAVE THOSE. BUT JOANN FABRICS HAD THEM IN NEAR ALL THEIR FABRIC . ARE YOU SURE IT WAS MICHAELS??

I'm sure it was. If you have trouble finding them locally, drop me a line with your snail-mail address and I'll send you some...the package I got has waaay more than I'll ever need.

I assume each location's stores are different. The Michaels here doesn't have them, but the Hobby Lobby does . . . with the leathercraft stuff.
