curt raitz Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 (edited) After building the full-fendered 1913 Mercer Raceabout, loaded with all the creature comforts available...I wanted to build a fenderless racing version. After searching online, I found an article in the April 2009 issue of Hemmings Classic Car Magazine w/photos of Peter Helck's 1914 Mercer Raceabout. Although built to race, Peter Helck never did race this car. Could not see any difference between the 1913 and 1914 Mercer other than the exhaust manifold. I wasn't in the mood to fabricate a new one, so went with the manifold provided in the kit. Heres both versions: The 1914 Mercer Raceabout: Thanx for lookin'... Edited July 28, 2011 by curt raitz
Harry P. Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Very cool! The two of them look great side by side. Is the "brass" trim on the race version painted? Love the engine detail... nice job! But where is the five point racing harness???
bsoder Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Beautifully done Curt..hard to imagine these as the great granddaddys to modern "open wheel" cars!
peter31a Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 What a great build! I love the early cars done up like this. Very, very cool. Job well done Curt.
curt raitz Posted July 28, 2011 Author Posted July 28, 2011 What scale are these, and who makes the kit? Harry It is 1/16th scale and comes from the Chinese company "FUMAN". It's a re-pop of the old Bandai kit...only difference is the instructions are in Chinese instead of Japanese
Eric Stone Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Those both look great, Curt. Very clean. Good job!
David@MinidreamsInc. Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 we all have our own style and even if this type of build is something that i would never or should i say i'm not into is still a super looking build ! Great detail and super clean finish is just awsome to look at and admire ! Great job !
jeffs396 Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Wow Curt, nice job! Those would qualify for "real or model"
Sixties Sam Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 (edited) Very nice - both cars! I really like the racer. Great detail work! I like seeing the really old cars. Kind of a reminder of how far we've come in 100 years! Sam Edited July 28, 2011 by Sixties Sam
Bernard Kron Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Two thumbzup!! I really like the subdued shade of maroon and semigloss texture on the paint.
TheCat Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Beautiful builds. They both look awesome!!! I love all the detail you've done to this build. Again, Great Job!!!
sjordan2 Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Just killer, both of them. Very faithful reproduction of Helck's car. I believe this kit was also issued by Entex.
bigphoto Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Very cool I have a couple pics I took of one at a vintage race a number of yrs ago now I dig em out!!
charlie8575 Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 I like these both very much. They look great next to each other. I'm hoping to make NNL-West next year, Curt, and I hope to see those there if I can make it out. Charlie Larkin
