62rebel Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 it looks so "real".... but... i see some things that don't seem right for 1:1..... model. Pocher, maybe; or even handbuilt from scratch...... there's a reason you didn't use a full view picture, i'm certain.
1zebra3 Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Looks too real to be real but I'm not changing my prediction.
dimaxion Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 I have to vote model . The emblem in the center of the steering wheel looks to be the scales of justice . Justa whatta kanna car issitt ?? Thanx ..
mr moto Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 I voted real but the one thing I see that makes me question it is the out of focus area in the lower left of the picture. Looks like it was very close to the lens when it was photographed.
Draggon Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 I wonder if this is one of Gerald Wingroves masterpieces?
Ryan S. Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 This one is tough, but I went real. I'd love to see the whole thing though, regardless of real or model.
jaymcminn Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 I'm gonna go with model here- probably 1:12 or 1:8 scale. There's just something about the diamond plate that looks a little... off.
gbdolfans Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 I voted model because of the depth of field in the photo. The edge of the interior closest to the camera is blurred.
Harry P. Posted February 17, 2012 Author Posted February 17, 2012 Fairly close vote. Final vote 29 REAL, 36 MODEL. And you got it... it's a model! 1/5 scale 1928 Mercedes SSK, completely scratchbuilt of metal, brass, etc. the "Wingrove way" (but not by Wingrove).
Pete J. Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 OMG! That is impressive! Who is the builder? I would very much like to see more of his stuff.
Pete J. Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 OMG! That is impressive! Who is the builder? I would very much like to see more of his stuff. Never mind. I found it. $42,000! Yea, that is about right for that level of craftsmanship.
W-409 Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Wow. That's all I can say! As usual, I was wrong, but anyway that is amazing build. Can't believe that it's model, those pictures just look like real car pictures....
MikeMc Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Pete ..its a steal at $42k....its listed for $46,500. 1/5 1928 Mercedes SSK "Speziale". An incredibly complex and large scratchbuilt model made almost entirely from metal from around 4200 (!!) pieces. The body is brass over a wooden frame, just like the real car. It features full engine detail, wired dashboard, wooden running boards, a scale toolkit -nothing is missing on this spectacular museum quality model. A special edition of just 8 have been built for our shop. Each one is being constructed differently (paint, leather, engine colors, options) and will be unique and a one-off. These measure 35" long and weigh about 40lbs. Enquire for more pix and further details. The standard SSK, SSK Touring and SSK Saoutchik are available as well, enquire. $46,500.00
MikeMc Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 (edited) OR for only $23,500. you could get a 300 SL gullwing Love this Cobra..... Edited February 17, 2012 by MikeMc
sjordan2 Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 Mike - where did you find the Gullwing shots? Interesting to see the white spaceframe, which was used for factory press releases so you could see it better than the production black.
MikeMc Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 (edited) PM sent...As these are handmade the two shown are different builds. Edited February 18, 2012 by MikeMc
