mr moto Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 This is my take on a late 60's D/Dragster - the kind that a low budget operation would run. I started with the AMT Hippie Hemi kit to get the chassis but there isn't much that wasn't modified or scratchbuilt. I'm not sure that it was a good choice of chassis because I had to carefully jig it and add extra braces to get it to build straight. Oh well, it looks cool! Body panels were made from .01" styrene, seat is from scratch, the steering is basically a scratchbuilt repro of the kit linkage - it was easier to duplicate it than to clean up the mold seams, etc. Engine comes from Lindberg's '64 Dodge with scratchbuilt intake and exhaust systems and six cylinder magneto. It got damaged so often while I was working on it that I decided to attach it to a base so I wouldn't have to handle it any more.
84vanagon Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Very cool! I love all the little details you added.
PARTSMARTY Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS-THERE ARE NO WORDS TO DESCRIBE THE REALISM OF THAT ENGINE-"GREAT JOB"

Foxer Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Excellent engine work .. that look sjust right ... rubber fuel line sand all! You gave me a few ideas for a '62 Dragster I have on the bench waiting for some fuel itself.
hotrod59f100 Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 (edited) So when you gonna start it up so we can hear it. Lol oh how I wish I could build that good. Edited February 13, 2012 by hotrod59f100
cherokeered Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Love it....Gotta ask though...where did you get the Webber looking carbs from? I've been looking for some for awhile now. Thanks and great job!
espo Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Looks great. I would love to hear this little baby roar in anger.
Harry P. Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Outstanding detail! BTW... try saying "Slant Six Slingshot" fast three times. Go ahead, try it...

Chuck Most Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Just the very existence of a Slant Six rail is pretty cool- the detailing and craftsmanship are fantastic to boot.
noname Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Very nicely done. The engine is sharp. I dig the red steelies.
hotrod59f100 Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Outstanding detail! BTW... try saying "Slant Six Slingshot" fast three times. Go ahead, try it... Lol Harry you stink now I'm tonuge tied lol.
Crazy Ed Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 As a rule Dragsters don't interest me all that much. But who can resist a slant 6 with webers and flat white pipes. Great Build.
mr moto Posted February 14, 2012 Author Posted February 14, 2012 Love it....Gotta ask though...where did you get the Webber looking carbs from? I've been looking for some for awhile now. Thanks and great job! One of the guys in the club had a Lamboghini kit (Fujimi?) with a set of sidedraft Webers so I borrowed his carbs and cast them in resin. Replicas and Miniatures of maryland sells sidedraft and downdraft Webers, too. Thanks for all the good words, everybody!!!
Lunajammer Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Yes, yes to all of the above and I'd like to add that I love the overall retro feel, even the colors. Fantastic nostalgia piece.
W-409 Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 This is great. Slingshot Dragsters are nice, and I like seeing something different too. This has just correct look for Low Budget racer, bit dirty and then that Slant Six engine... Great Job Overall!
