Jon Cole Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 Heres on of my oddest kits. You mean, that thing... is... real???
martinfan5 Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 Jon, yep its real, I dont know a lot about it , but doing that to cars over there is huge, I think there is a member on here that might know more about it
hotrod59f100 Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 (edited) Erik I want that city. I didn't realize they made one with a motor.luis I love them Japanese cars. Jon those are still pretty big in Japan . They put murals of popular japanese girls on them.now ther moving into lt duty delivery trucks jazzing them up.like these. martinfan5 Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 They also do that to the cars as well, I think they are a bunch of pics on here in the reference section, going to look
Erik Smith Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 Dekotora It would be cool to build a model of a lighted Dekotora truck! What is also interesting to me is how many of the Japanese molds get used by a few different companies: Perhaps a subject for a different thread all together. I know I have a few kits with the same spread of company labels. I like that 1/20 Entex Celica 1600GT too...
Junkman Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 (edited) "Tool leasing" is very common in Japan. Most model companies are within walking distance of one another in Shizuoka City. The people running these companies know each other from common social activities. Some of these tool leasing deals are literally signed at a bar or a golf club. Edited April 28, 2012 by Junkman
Junkman Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 I bought these with an eye to make them into cabins for futuristic trucks:
NitroMarty Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Here's one for y'all..... Testors' "SuperVan" kit Remember Matchbook Kits from Eldon??? How 'bout the little known Bob Glidden version of Monogram's 1/32 scale EXP kit....
Luc Janssens Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 The following 3 Airfix 1/24 scale automotive kits, were actually re-boxed 1/25 scale mpc annuals. IIRC there also was a '67 Dodge Charger in that series....I'm sure they're not that common in the USA. BTW you can view the contents of the GTO on the following site. http://ultimategto.com/modbox3.htm
Dave Van Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Speaking of re-boxed kits.......here is a AMT kit FROG was another UK manufacture that sold US kits under their label. This one is from my collection. A GREAT kit that I wish was still around. It was about 4 building options including a nice NASCAR version shown on the box. Stock, custom and drag was possible too.

Ah...yes...wrapped in those fantastic donut boxes, had a late '60 'vette and still have a cobra from Frog.
Junkman Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Yeah, I had the Frog Galxie, too. Loved the fact that they made Daytona into a dirt track and drove it clockwise.
mr moto Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Best seems to have made other intersting stuff, too. Apparently some of the Best tooling ended up with Aurora? Probably most if not all of the Best tools ended up at Aurora. I can remember when Aurora offered a very extensive line of older Indy cars based on the Best kits. I'm guessing that these are lost along with much of Aurora's tooling.
Dave Van Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Loved the fact that they made Daytona into a dirt track and drove it clockwise. It is funny.....but I see where they were going..... Gurney drove a Ford, not that model, #121 at Riverside, which is kinda correct for that picture. But in the sixties if any one had heard of NASCAR in the UK it was Daytona....so....marketing magic!!
Draggon Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Good gravy, my dad had a 68 Galaxie fastback that I loved. I would sure dig having that frog-amt-gurney version! His was dark green metallic, vinyl roof, 390 4bbl, autostick, full wheel covers with those Firestone Wide Oval Whitelines. Oh what I'd give to have that car today. I havent seen another one like it.
ZTony8 Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 In my collection I have the companion to that Revell Maxwell. It's a 1/16 scale Ford Model T coupe kitted by Revell in the 1950s.It's engineered much like their 1/43 scale antique cars.
Junkman Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 I don't believe it... Nissei made TWO DIFFERENT 1/20 scale injection moulding machine kits:
FASTBACK340 Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 Wow.... what a great post. I've seen kits posted I had no idea existed, and not just the Sushi and Birds! C'mon gang.... Keep digging this stuff out!
BIGTRUCK Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 I hope this works..trying a new camera..lack of posting and old age=problems
FASTBACK340 Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 This last picture brings me to a moment in my childhood when I learned the meaning of a new word. I was about 9-10 yrs. old and a friend was attempting to assemble a Ford J car. First hand I learned what the word "complicated" meant. IIRC.... he poured all the glue in a tube onto the contents of the box and lit it up behind a truck depot.....
Eshaver Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 1951 L' Sabre by Premier models: In my years in the hobby, I have seen ONE of these in this scale . I've seen one other in 1-32nd scale and I forget the manufacturer of that one . This example is the same as the other one this same vendor had several years ago and nearly in the same shape . This time , I was in a position to get this one as I'm a huge fan of anything G M Motorama . Stamped into the top of the bottom half are the words - Premier prod. Brooklin 21 N. Y.At the drivers quarter panel- Facci Bros . I don't have the isnstructions or missing windshield parts . I think I can scratch build these items . I'm curious as to why the 1-25th scale L' Sabres were done in this wierd Brown . The 1-1 car was a Metallic Blue . The 1-32 scale model was molded in a lt. Blue . Ed Shaver
