brodie_83 Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 I'm wanting to build my 1/12 Shelby GT500 kit, but I really don't want to use the original wheels/tires. I was looking in the R/C world and found 2 that I liked: Now I just have to decide which ones would look best on the GT500. I'm thinking the 2nd ones (I'd probably paint them with Duplicolor Chrome to give the polished look rather than chrome). The theme is going to be K.I.T.T. from the most recent Knight Rider TV show, but revamped to the newer style GT500. I'll also be scratch-building a Super Snake hood with possibly some LED work in the scoop. Let me know what you all think. Thanks!
JasonFL Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 If it were me I would go with the chrome ones, the black ones look a little to ricey.
Fat Brian Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 I've always liked BBS LM style wheels, I would have bought a set for my Lexus if I could have made the offset work. I know the blue wouldn't work, maybe something like a polished aluminium.
Rick Schmidt Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 The Chrome ones mimic the 03 Cobras Annies pretty well http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/products/Mustang-SVE-Anniversary-Wheels
cobraman Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 I stripped the wheels on the Shelby I'm building and painted them black. I like the look. To each his own.
JamesW Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Definatly the chrome ones. They've got a nice lip that would work for a muscle car.
RodneyBad Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Black. Chrome is for show. Black is to Go..Fast... BTW: I haven't owned Chrome wheels on my 1:1 cars for Yrs but Mine aren't for show..
David G. Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Get both, put black on the front and chrome on the back... unless it's front wheel drive, then put the chrome on the front. You should do what seems right to you. David G.
brodie_83 Posted May 5, 2012 Author Posted May 5, 2012 Thanks for all the replies guys. I think I'm gonna go with the black ones pictured above and paint them with Duplicolor Chrome. They look like something that might come on a Mustang...and I think they'll look good. The first ones look a little too "tuner"ish to me.
Joe Handley Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 I'd keep looking for something better looking than either. How about these, they're chrome over black plastic so you can strip the chrome if you don't like it! http://www.hpiracing.com/products/en/3592/ These are 1.9"x26mm (1") and can be had with 3, 6, or 9 millimeter offsets.
1930fordpickup Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 I say strip the chrome wheels and paint them Black , but it is not my car .
