crazyjim Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 I've been all over the internet and can't find a simple answer, so I figure I'll ask hear because there's such a wealth of knowledge. I've always had Kodak cameras and they come with Kodak Easy Share software. Basically, plug the camera into the supplied USB cable, hit the power button, and the pics transfer to the computer. I'm still thinking/planning on getting a new camera but probably not a Kodak. So with all those other digital cameras you're using out there, how do you get the pics form the camera to the computer?
martinfan5 Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 (edited) Jim, what I do to get the pics off of my camera, is I take out the memory card, and put it in a card reader. You can pick a card reader for about $9 This is the one I was using http://www.amazon.co...gus card reader This the one I just got, well close to it http://www.amazon.co...gus card reader Edited June 17, 2012 by martinfan5
Lownslow Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 Jim, what I do to get the pics off of my camera, is I take out the memory card, and put it in a card reader. The reason I do it that way is I resize them before I save them and up load them to my hosting sites. You can pick a card reader for about $9 This is the one I was using http://www.amazon.com/Targus-TGR-MSD500-Secure-Digital-Reader/dp/B004A8MA4W/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1339967093&sr=8-2&keywords=targus+card+reader This the one I just got, well close to it http://www.amazon.com/Targus-TGR-MSR35-USB-2-0-Reader/dp/B004XT6ZGW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1339967093&sr=8-1&keywords=targus+card+reader i do this
fatkidd Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 I'm using a Canon Digital Rebel XTI. It is a digital SLR camera and I have 2 different lenses for it. As far as getting the pictures from the camera to the computer, I hook the Usb cable to the camera, hook it to the computer, turn on the camera, and then cut and paste the pictures from the camera to a folder that I have created on the computer. If there is any editing that I want to do, I will open the picture in Photoshop and go from there. Hope this helps.
Jordan White Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 Yeah you can either use the USB cable and turn on the camera, which will open the folder that the pics are in, or you if you have a SD card reader on your laptop (you should, mine is 6 years old and has one) you can just pull out the SD card and put it in the reader, and it will be found under My Computer.
crazyjim Posted June 17, 2012 Author Posted June 17, 2012 Sounding so far like there's nothing like the Easy Share system Kodak has. Why did they have to go out of business? Darn it!!
TooOld Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 Jim , If your Kodak point and shoot camera still works why buy a new one ? That's what I use for taking pics of my models and I think it takes great pictures ! I've never used the Kodak Gallery so I could care less if they've gone out of business . It can't get any easier than pushing one button to transfer pictures ! BOB .
gbdolfans Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 Hi Jim,I use a Nikon Coolpix S6100.When you buy the camera,it comes with a CD to install on your computer. It has a program called Nikon Transfer on it.When you want to load your pics from camera to computer, just plug USB from computer to camera, hit power and it will upload what you have shot to a folder(I use My Pictures). Then you can do what you want with them. Hope this helps, George
sjordan2 Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 I have a very simple Samsung camera. No installation required on my iMac. I just use the USB cable to plug it into the computer. When the camera icon appears on my desktop, I double click and a folder appears. I open the folder, select the image and drag it to my desktop to be copied. Then I put it wherever I want to. That's it.
Harold Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 I have a Canon Rebel and I download my pics into Adobe Bridge. I can manipulate JPEG's in the same manner as a RAW file by opening it up in Camera RAW. I then open it up in photoshop to do any final manipulations.
AzTom Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 Since digital first came out I've had Olympus, Sony and a few Canons. I have tried the download cords and software that came with them but nothing is easier than removing the memory card and placing it in the appropriate computer slot, or Card reader. Then just drag and drop to the folder you want them in. As for cameras, I love the new Canon I got a few months ago http://www.beachcamera.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=CNPSA3400ISK It has a touch screen shutter release so you don't need to be holding the camera when it takes the photo. You can also touch screen the area you want the camera to focus on, great for under hood and interior shots. Regardless what you buy, do share the pictures
Kit Basher Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 I also have a Nikon Coolpix, but I don't use the Nikon software. I plug in the USB cord, turn on the camera, and it opens Windows Camera and Scanner Wizard automatically.
MoparWoman Jamie Posted June 18, 2012 Posted June 18, 2012 I use a General Eleric camera that uses a SD Smart Card (SD). Heck with USB stuff LOL.
Foxer Posted June 18, 2012 Posted June 18, 2012 I doesn't matter what digital camera you have, They all have memory cards which Windows recognizes as a storage device (hard disk, if you will) and you just use Explorer and copy to your hard disk from the "Removable Device", as it shows in the file listing. I'm on my 7th digital camera and I've never once used the wasteful CD that comes with them all. Copying files is pretty basic stuff. Everyone using Windows should learn what a file is and just do it!
crazyjim Posted June 18, 2012 Author Posted June 18, 2012 Now it sounds as if all the camera manufacturers provide some software package to transfer pics. I'm old, hard to train, and used to the Kodak version. I have to go out to the post office and Tractor Supply this morning, so I might just stop at the Wal-Mart and check that Sony camera again. Thank you everyone for the advise.
kruleworld Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 i use the supplied USB cable and Windows Image Transfer. WIT comes with windows, so it's free and comes up automatically when camera plugged in.

Kodak is still in business, just operating under bankruptcy protection. Just wanted to set the record straight. Charlie Larkin
SoCalCarCulture Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 For those of you with cameras that accept SD cards there is a product called Eye-Fi, I was a beta tester for these when they first became available. They listened to all our comments and these work well now, wireless transfer to your computer, tablet or phone.

MonoPed Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 I also use a Kodak camera, but never installed the software. I pop the SD card into the card reader, and drag and drop the pic files onto the laptop.
SoCalCarCulture Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 Whats the pricing for those? Google it! - I'd try Amazon for pricing, they are obviously more than your standard cards but not too expensive.
Edsel-Dan Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 I did not have a Card reader slot(s) in any PC thil this Dell. I just plugged the USB cable in and turned the camera on. Like they say, ity is the same as plugging a Thumbdrive in. The PC will recognize it as an external drive/device and bring up the window "What should Windows Do" I scroll down to Open folder, and simply Move th e wanted pic's to the correct folder. I don't drag/drop, I highlight and click "Move" or 'Copy' Renaming them I only clip on the pic, then click a second time on the name. I now type what I want the file name to be. Delay the second click, And Only hit the Name of the file. It will be boxed, and white text on blue I am using an Old Sony DSC30 1.3 MP camera. I sometimes rename the pic's before I move them
