realgone58 Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 I rescued this off the 'bay, it was an old built with the wrong hubcaps. I just happened to have a set of '63 Chrysler hubcaps, took her apart, purple ponded it, sprayed it in factory color Teal metallic, and did some foil work. It actually looks better in person than it does in my pics. My camera flash picks up on everything!!!lol. Glad to have found this, as these things were never re-issued and are pretty expensive.
Casey Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 That color looks great with all those straight bodylines, too.
Guest Johnny Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Nice looking Chrysler! Loved the early 60's models. Neighbor had one in Cypress Tan, beautiful car, until his kid went sliding in the shopping center lot! Long run (to about 30mph) big spin and backed into a light pole concrete base! Remember that like it was yesterday!
Mopar - D Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Alan nice rescue on the 63 Chysler 300. I have a converable that I will get around to build some time in the near furtue.
Sixties Sam Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 That's a rare model. I'm glad you saved it. Looks good! Sam
Gluhead Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Excellent job. We usually only see these as basket cases on ebay in need of rescue...rarely the post-rescue beauty! My mom has a '63 New Yorker station wagon that I've been trying to get from her for...well, decades. After all this time slowly rotting away, I'm not sure I even want it anymore. Yeah right. Of course I do.
Mike Kucaba Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Very nice restore on a built-up.Color looks great. I learned how to drive on a '63,but it was 4-door Newport.
charlie8575 Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Now that's what I'm talking about! Charlie Larkin
Rob Hall Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Sharp...love those vintage Johans....I have a builtup '63 300 convertible I got off eBay about 10 years ago...
Guest Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Nice looking model Alan! A great save with a doubt! To get better photos, try taking them in better light without the flash. I always take my photos outside.
george 53 Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 My Mom came home with a new one of these and my Pop had a FIT! He NEVER liked Chryslers, and couldn't believe she had done it. Needless to say, she ended up gettin a new Lincoln 4 dr convertable! That's my Momma! She gonna do it, she gonna do it RIGHT! We had Lincolns of my life, after that. Dad LOVED Fords, and to them, Lincolns were the cream of the crop. (Personally, I'M STILL a Cadillac Man!!!!)
Platerpants Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 nice! i would love to save a johan superbird(or any johan) and redo it, i hate 1/24 scale since johans the only one that did it in 1/25 i would love to have it next to my daytona. again nice save
realgone58 Posted August 17, 2012 Author Posted August 17, 2012 Very nice restore on a built-up.Color looks great. I learned how to drive on a '63,but it was 4-door Newport. Thanks for the nice comments guys. I've had several 1:1 '63-'64 Chryslers. '64 Newport sedan, '64 Newport 4 dr h/t, '64 New Yorker 4dr h/t, '63 Newport sedan, and a '64 300 sport 2dr h/t. Guess you can say I like them. Hey Gluhead, grab your station wagon, they are very rare hardtop wagons! Nextime I'll try my pics outside. The flash on these pics made my foil job look bad.
TooOld Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Great restoration ! Love to see old glue bombs brought back to life ! Just a suggestion , try taking your close up shots without the flash . Once you get the lighting right the pictures will look much better . And if you are running Windows it's easy to adjust the brightness levels .
Erik Smith Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 That looks very nice - very nice color. I wouldn't mind seeing some more pictures. I actually like the simple lines of the '63 Chryslers as the earlier years tended to be a little too "odd" to my eye(s). The pictures look a little distorted, though - wide angle lens effect?
bbowser Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Great save! Love the 60's Mopars, they were just different.
peekay Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Wonderful! Got that kit for my birthday in 1964, haven't seen one since.
crazyjim Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 There's a shot - and a SAVE!! Yeah. I like the SHINY :)
