Bruce! Haven't seen you around here in a while! Nice work on that conversion! Excellent color.

I just picked this kit up in a trade. How well did that El Camino roof go on? Gimme the straight skinny because I'm fixing to give this one to my dad who specifically wants to build the El Camino phantom version.

did this start as a nomad?

Yes. AMT provides a piece that you graft in as the back half of the cab/front part of the "truck" bed. In the two previous versions of this kit that I've had (decades ago) that piece was ribbed on top, so expect to do some serious sanding to get a smooth roof like Bruce did. Jantrix, I hope Bruce answers your question 'cuz I'm interested too. I haven't attempted this conversion, but it looks like all it would take is some precision cutting in order to pull it off.

Monty, Bruce sent me a PM, he said the top went on pretty well, but the area where the top meets the body sides needs some massaging. Honestly considering the age of the kit, that's more then we should hope for.

Hmmm, any interest in shooting some pics of your dad's build as it progresses? Maybe a mini-tutorial regarding the new cab piece?

Monty, my dad hasn't built in 30 years. It's been all I can do to get him to even build right now. He's had surgeries on both arms/shoulders over the years and his hands shake a bit. His confidence isn't real high right now, I doubt he'll be wanting to share the work. But I'll let you know via PM of any issues he has. Shoot me a PM if you want to discuss further.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled program, Bruce's awesome El Nomino thread.

The General shouda built this back in the day. No dis to the '59 (one of my faves) but it should have started in 55. Good job!

Nice to see you back around these parts. Your El Camino turned out great. I love the color and the custom wheels. Keep in touch and I'll stop by soon to show you my progress. PM me with your phone number so I can call you beforehand I head that way.

I wish to thank you one and all for your comments....................

A build like this deserves those accolades - enjoy 'em! I hope it inspires more Nomad and Nomino (?) projects.

never thought about building this version from this kit. But your result says to me: "do it". Thank you, it came out great and your colour choose is perfect.

Nice to see your work over here. As usual, your conversion is very well proportioned and looks like something that could easily have been produced by the manufacturer. Great looking truck.
