chris_thobe Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 This is my 51 Chevy Lowrider. It is all done with House of Kolor kandy. I named it "Relapse" because the first time I painted it, I hate a fatal error when mixing the clear, and the clear wouldn't dry so I had to strip the paint off and completely redo it all. I am posting from my phone because my computer is down and I can't get the first picture to turn so sorry for that.
Gluhead Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Impressive. I can't imagine doing that once...let alone...twice!
chris_thobe Posted October 26, 2012 Author Posted October 26, 2012 I did a couple patterns a little different the second time. Turned out better but each time I had about 3 hours in taping patterns and then about 6 hrs spent on painting the kandys and nail polish. Very time consuming.
Danno Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Wow. That's a lot of taping and spraying and taping and spraying and retaping and respraying. Very impressive!
chris_thobe Posted October 26, 2012 Author Posted October 26, 2012 Even worse, the fire wall and floor pans were painted identical to the car, all suspension is chromed and when I put it together the chassis was a nightmare, frame broke car sat crooked, got glue everywhere trying to make it work, and ended up scraping the OG chassis and hacked up a 49 Merc chassis to put under it, and the car went from turntable with mirrors under it to a curbside. Not happy about it.
Gluhead Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Yep...some do go that way, don't they. Even so, it looks killer.
chris_thobe Posted October 26, 2012 Author Posted October 26, 2012 Thanks. I have built 2 of these 51's recently. 1 was a convertible and one a fleet line and both chassis were warped and didn't fit worth a ######!!
Gluhead Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Haha...yep...nevermind G rated...this place is Pre-G. Yeah, that kit was pretty fine for it's day, but it does need to be coerced.
bryan_m Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 wow! very cool paintjob, that had to be a TON of work...... cheers bryan
