Maindrian Pace Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 A vintage Jag XK120 toy from way back (approximately 1/14 scale), no manufacturer ID, a few parts missing, but a surprisingly accurate body and other features. Opening hood and trunk, but a very minimalistic engine and one-sided hollow tires. I can't decide whether to glue back the basic parts and enjoy it as the toy it is, or try to make it a very nice curbside display model, which wouldn't be overly difficult. Looks like a Marx. -MJS

Tom Geiger Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 after my club meeting in New Jersey today, a couple of us hit a local hobby shop. They had a big stack of clearance kits, as well as what looked like part of a collection. I got the '37 Ford Panel for $11.99 since I recently stole those wheels out of the one kit I had. Upon opening that one I decided I want to build this kit in the light commercial style. I already know the decals I will make for it. The Daisy's Jeep was on sale for $7.99 and they had a stack of them. My buddy Bart also bought one. I got mine since I have been looking over my Jeep Rubicon and want to see what's transferable between them. Couldn't pass up the kit for that price. The Galaxie Chevy Panel was $19.99 and was a bit of a gamble since it was an opened kit that the shop had sealed with clear packing tape. But I took the gamble and am happy to report that everything is still in bags inside. The box is a bit damaged but this one's a builder. I've always had a mint kit that I've hesitated to build. I envision this one as a service vehicle for my grandfather's jewelry store. My grandfather was the watch maker and he did architectural clocks as well... you know the clocks mounted on buildings. When ever we were in Journal Square in Jersey City, he'd point out that the clock in the tower on the Jersey Journal building was one of his! So we need a service vehicle. A good score when I was least expecting to buy stuff.
1930fordpickup Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Great price on the Jeep Kit Tom . the other two are good prices as well.

Tom Geiger Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 The NNL East name tag order came in yesterday! People have been asking for name tags so we've gone and printed them for everyone! As you know the whole idea behind an NNL is sharing the hobby with your friends and meeting new people. We hope the name tags will help more people connect at the show!
Belugawrx Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 3 New 1/4" tempered glass shelves for the display case
Tom Geiger Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 3 New 1/4" tempered glass shelves for the display casedisplay case.JPG Cool. I need to do that with my two china cabinets. I just replaced all the wood shelves in my wife's curio cabinets with glass so the light would shine through. Glass cut to order isn't as expensive as people think.
The70judgeman Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 @Bruce- That's a really sweet display case. I've been looking for something like that for some time. Craigslist is pretty much a bust around here and I don't know anyone that has one that they're willing to part with.

Ask for 'Salvage Glass' it's cheaper
Tom Geiger Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 @Bruce- That's a really sweet display case. I've been looking for something like that for some time. Craigslist is pretty much a bust around here and I don't know anyone that has one that they're willing to part with. I have two china cases and a curio cabinet for my models. The first china cabinet I got from my sister when she bought her house, the former owner left it and she didn't want it. That one was free. My second china cabinet was bought at a 2nd hand furniture store for $125. My curio cabinet was found at the curb. Someone put it out for garbage. Funny story, I bring it inside and it's a dark wood. My wife had an identical cabinet in a lighter wood. She decided the dark wood went better in her decorating, so she traded me. I have the light wood one in my model room. I also have a three foot long store display case that's out in the garage waiting refurbishing. I found that on a garbage night too. Same time frame that I found the dark wood curio cabinet, another house put out 8 nice dining room chairs. I didn't need them but heck they were free. I took a few pictures and sold them for $200 on Craig's List. So it's a matter of keeping your eye out. Craig's List, even check the free section. Watching the curb on garbage night. Our hauler takes big items on the last pickup of the month so I'll drive around then. Flea markets, garage sales... you'll find one eventually.
High octane Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Furniture stores sometimes have really nice 6 foot tall curio cabinets, but they are pricey. They are nice enough to have them in one's living room or family room where I have mine, and the wife is okay with it.
cobraman Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 I need to do that to the china cabinet I bought a couple weeks ago. Got it on Craigslist for 80 dollars. It was a bit dirty because it was in storage but cleaned up very nice.
