Shiny Black Chevy

I always like this car, but never saw one in black going up as a kid. So I desided to make my own. The model is an AMT 70 Impala, painted Testors Black Lacquer with Wet Look clear as a top coat and polished out with Macguires #5 new car glaze. Also has matching interior and Tamiya's clear blue for the glass. I used a fine white paint pen for the raised white letters on the tires.

Let me know what you think.

One of my dad's buddies had a grey '70 Bel Air coupe with a 390hp 454 back in the day, he had Corvette rally wheels on it. Except for the roofline and 2 slotted tail lights instead of 3 it looked pretty much like your's. I think it's one of the better looking full size Chevies. I like your's in black, looks great with all that chrome!

The S/S wheels looks right at home on it, and that black! S-H-I-N-Y! I'm very impressed with the look of that wet-look clear. While I'll agree that the car from the factory wouldn't have had so deep a look to the finish, a well-maintained car with good polish/compound/wax practices would still look very good. That would also do a nice job of replicating a car with a fresh resto using modern paint.

What make of pen is that that you use, Al? I might give that a try for W/Ws and W/WWs and the occasional RWL/OWL tire I find myself in need of doing.

Sinister.

This kit, while I love it for it's sheer presence (size matters after all!) was one of the bigger disappointments of my modelling life when I opened it and discovered how poor the detail was.

Still, it can be made to look good as you have shown.
