Porscheman
I always like this car, but never saw one in black going up as a kid. So I desided to make my own. The model is an AMT 70 Impala, painted Testors Black Lacquer with Wet Look clear as a top coat and polished out with Macguires #5 new car glaze. Also has matching interior and Tamiya's clear blue for the glass. I used a fine white paint pen for the raised white letters on the tires.Let me know what you think.Al

Porscheman
Thanks everyone. Gotta love black cars. The paint pens I use for the tires are from Michael's. These work very well on the tires and dry great with no stickiness.Al Edited July 29, 2013 by Porscheman
beeRS
Nice job Al. It looks mean in black! I built one of these kits when I was a kid (a Cruisin USA kit from AMT). I think you have just inspired me to have another try!

Tom Geiger
Neat work Al. I had a '70 coupe like that back in the day. Mine was triple gold 350 coupe. I sold it because I couldn't afford to put gas in it.. back when gas was 50 cents a gallon!

BigBad
One of my dad's buddies had a grey '70 Bel Air coupe with a 390hp 454 back in the day, he had Corvette rally wheels on it. Except for the roofline and 2 slotted tail lights instead of 3 it looked pretty much like your's. I think it's one of the better looking full size Chevies. I like your's in black, looks great with all that chrome!
Porscheman
Thanks guys!!! Painting black is always a challenge for me and this one just came out nice, but I have a whole table full that don't shine.
turn1wonder
I built one of these using the custom parts long ago, black like yours but nowhere near as well done. Great job Al! Bob
charlie8575
The S/S wheels looks right at home on it, and that black! S-H-I-N-Y! I'm very impressed with the look of that wet-look clear. While I'll agree that the car from the factory wouldn't have had so deep a look to the finish, a well-maintained car with good polish/compound/wax practices would still look very good. That would also do a nice job of replicating a car with a fresh resto using modern paint. What make of pen is that that you use, Al? I might give that a try for W/Ws and W/WWs and the occasional RWL/OWL tire I find myself in need of doing. Charlie Larkin
charlie8575
One other thing I noticed..in the last picture, those center taillights look like they're illuminated. Even if not an intended effect, very cool! Charlie Larkin
zenrat
Sinister. This kit, while I love it for it's sheer presence (size matters after all!) was one of the bigger disappointments of my modelling life when I opened it and discovered how poor the detail was. Still, it can be made to look good as you have shown.
