And did'ja see the idiot proofing on the new gas cans. I bought one a couple of years ago... plastic of course... and it has a child proof cap that makes the ones on medicine look easy! And then there's a nozzle lock that almost immediately malfunctioned. So I found an old cap and nozzle I had in my garage.

Idiot-proofing?

Maybe only idiots can use them. I can't get those things to pour right for love nor money.

Perhaps a better idiot made them. As my cousin likes to say, "when you make something idiot-proofed, don't you know they go and build a better idiot."

Got the can. Got a call it was in two days later. :opACE3-1742136enh-z8.jpg

I live about 5 miles away from the plant where that can was made.

Another Costco and another Walmart are coming to my area. Yay!! They will go nicely with the ones a couple miles away.

It's amazing how close they put these stores apart. We have two Targets that can't be three miles apart. And three Taco Bells within that same circle.

Apparently a Walmart neighborhood market is also coming to the area. I just don't see how it is profitable to have stores 2-3 miles apart.

I also find it ridiculous when you can stand in front of a Starbucks and see 2 others across the street.

Corporate greed at its finest.

Yea, when Walmart moves into an area, they haven't done research that says that the local market could support their new store in addition to the stores already there... their goal is to crush the existing stores and put them out of business! And that's how all the big chains work... big box stores, casual restaurants and fast food. That's why there are so many empty stores and shopping centers that are like ghost towns out in suburbia!

Found out that a guy we call the Ebay modeler won another Best of show awards for cars he buys off of Ebay that are built at the IPMS show in Anniston AL yesterday. Pisses me off to the point i want to smash every one of his cars next time i see him and beat him with the remains.

Now that is just low... nothing like taking praise for someone else s work and skills. I use to deal with that all the time where I use to work by a lazy guy that worked there.

Whats sad is the judges were told about him. I would have called him up to get his award and then confronted him with the Ebay listings and then informed him to NEVER return to a show again with them.

That is one of the biggest problems with the world today....people just don't care whats right or wrong....at least there still is a few of us that do.

The attitudes of people today have changed dramatically from the 50's & 60's. It seems like a lot of people have this "hurray for me and FY" attitude. I especially notice it when I'm drivin' on the highways.

Which gets us to my gripe of the day...so many morons don't seem able to grasp the concept that it's the car on the entrance ramp that has the responsibility to match speeds with a highway traffic stream, to achieve a nice smooth merge. It's NOT the responsibility of the traffic to slow down or speed up to create a space for some I'm-the-center-of-the-universe idiot who just shouldn't be driving.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AND...why are Americans content to be continually screwed by big oil? Gas in my market has gone up $.30 per gallon in just a few weeks. Spare me the "changing to summer blends" story. It's just price gouging, whatever the market will bear, pure and simple.

It didn't bother me much until recently, because years ago I arranged my life to avoid any long commutes, never more than 6 miles each way. Since shortly after Christmas I've been driving an extra 340 miles a week (to help out a friend...don't ask) and the cost of fuel is really beginning to chap my tired old ass.

My favorite? The jerk behind you on the on ramp, who the moment he can, goes across lines he shouldn't to cut you off onto the highway?

And then flings rock and other debris up onto you at the same time.

We're around $3.90 for regular here, and I got sick enough of it that when I bought my Chrysler 200, I got it with the flex fuel engine. Being the Midwest, E85 has been around $.80-$1.10 less than regular, but do to shipping "issues" related to the extreme cold and such plus the Futures market racketeers the price on that shot up to $3.29-$3.49 around here and a friend up in Michigan saw $3.89 at a couple stations that weren't affiliated with the Michigan YellowHose program (those stations have to sell at a $1.00 discount vs regular or better).

This guy actually buys models on ebay and wins best of show awards with them? Never heard of such a thing.

We had that problem several years ago with a well-renown contest (which doesn't exist any more). Guy came in and entered a bunch of models . . . noticeable variations of techniques and skills were apparent. Two things tripped him up: One, he bought a model with custom-made one-off decals and the guy who made the decals was present & told us who he made the decals for (not the entrant, but the guy who sold the model to the entrant). Two, he bought a collection of built-ups from a seller here in town, then entered a couple in our contest. The seller had entered the models in previous contests here. The entrant was from out of town. Let's just say none of his entries were very successful after that.

We had another instance . . . a local builder of, say Skill Level 2 capabilities, entered a dozen or so models. One was sporting a Skill Level 4 or 5 paint job of a particular style. Even models the entrant built after this one had sandpapery dull paint and serious Olympic-size orange peel. But that one model . . . world-class killer paint job. Another entrant had a couple of models with similar finishes ~ world class, killer, same colors, same style graphics and techniques. He was a talented 1:1 car painter as well. We asked Skill 2 Guy how he accomplished the special effects of his paint job on that one model. But he couldn't tell us the technique employed. We asked the painter . . . and he admitted Skill 2 Guy paid him to paint the body of that one model. Skill 2 Guy also had a streak of dismal failures in the podium-finish department after that. He quit buying paint jobs.

We now keep a booklet with winner lists from past years and photos of the winning models. Any questions, we look it up. We usually catch the cheats. Unfortunately, not always. Cheaters can quickly destroy the credibility of any contest or show, so it's important to try to discourage them.

Bill, fasten your seat belt! A friend of mine who works in the oil industry tells me that the average price of gas come the middle of next month, will be on the order of around $4.20 a gallon here in the Central PA area. :( Right now it's running about $3.60 a gallon.

Now he has nothing to do with oil futures or anything speculative such as that, but he works with people who are in the know about such things, so I consider him to be a reliable source.

Makes me laugh when you guys in the US complain about fuel price's.

Over here in Australia at the moment in my town we are paying around AU $1.54 per litre for regular unleaded, you do the math for converting that to gallon.
