No pool. 2300 sf., 3 BR, 2 baths, two car attached garage. Maybe 1/8 acre. My real estate taxes are TEN times what yours are.

The finest political corruption that money can buy.

Maybe it's time to beat the stampede out of town...and sell your house before its value plummets.

My property taxes went down this year by over $400, but of course I don't live in Crook County anymore either.

I know all about the cost of living in the Chicago area and Illinois in general, Harry.  I stopped complaining and moved out.  Additionally, my body couldn't take the winters anymore and I was sick and tired of sitting in traffic.  Citrus County, FL has about 125,000 people in the whole county.  Nothing like peace, quiet, and not a lot of people around.

Man Jim, you like to live in Crowded ares huh?! Citrus County has ~770 sq miles with ~140,000 people elbow to elbow . While Cochise County where I am has ~6,200 sq miles n 130,000 folks. And No Hurricanes or Toronados. Worst Traffic out here are the Cows on the way to the Post Office!

Maricopa County where I'm at has only has a little over 4.1 milion people in ~9200 sq miles.

I didn't think we had that many people here. I wonder if that includes the snowbirds that come down.  If we get more than 4 cars at a stop light, we have traffic issues.   Gotta be careful by the horse crossing signs.

Our Snowbirds have thinned quite a bit since the Golf Course closed. I've got to drive ~40 miles to get to the nearest Traffic Light, which btw is also the distance to the nearest Super Market. We don't have signs warning about Horse Crossings 'cause they just ride'em right down the roads.

You don't want to move out here.

Haven't seen any of those creepy critters in 8 years living here.   Other than geckos in my backyard and the occasional wasp or bug....

There's things that can kill you or make life painful everywhere if you aren't careful.

I live in the swampy SE USA and a friend of mine here went into anaphylactic shock after being stung multiple times by wasps, probably would have died without medical intervention. We have brown recluse and black widow spiders that have very toxic venom. I once caught a young eastern diamondback rattler in my shop. Lotsa other unpleasant things too. But usually if you don't mess with them, they won't mess with you. They bite when they feel threatened.

And if the bugs and snakes don't get you here, the rust, mold and mildew will.

Give me the desert any day.  ;)

I lived in Phoenix for 2 years and killed 2 rattlesnakes, saw one tarantula in his natural habitat (which was pretty cool), and killed hundreds of black widows- I can't remember ever seeing any scorpions in PHX, but I had one run across my leg at the trainyard in Raton, NM at midnight while I was waiting to hop a freight to Albuquerque

Nobody has scarier creatures than we do here in the Chicago area. They're huge, walk on two legs, and will screw you over any chance they get. We call them "politicians."
